Descriptive Gary Rowett as the ideal appointment and seeing this happen 18 days later is not a shock, but of course a bit strange. To see who we thought was the most obvious candidate to land actually gets the job after a long list of people thrown in is a bit special.

The problem here is the recruitment process. Gary Rowett was also seen as a candidate at Blackburn, but they went for another short-term recruitment in Michael O’Neill. Unsurprisingly, Leicester are recruiting from the agency again Aquarius.

We have seen several candidates pop up in the bookmakers lists. To see Enzo Maresca, Sean Dyche and Ralph Hassenhutl linked to this position, with Gareth Southgate and Steven Gerrard also in contention, shows that this has not gone as planned.

Gary Rowett was a clear and obvious candidate for this position. His previous connection with the club. His status as a manager, the fact that he was free and not currently linked to any club, made him easy prey. Why Leicester once again took so long to find him is obviously something to address.

After previous engagements and the fact that we had so many different moves in different directions, as well as signals and possible leaks about Gary Rowett two days ago, we were surprised to see certain outlets come out with different names and still continue about Sean Dyche and Gareth Southgate long after it was confirmed in an article written by journalist from The Telegraph John Percy.

Callum Davidson has joined the staff to assist Gary Rowett. The two have worked together in the past. Davidson (49) was with Rowett at Millwall and Stoke. He also has a long career in football as a player, coach and manager. He was last in Ross County, leaving them in late December.

Callum Davidson joined Leicester as a player in the summer of 2000 along with Gary Rowett. He was signed by Blackburn and spent four years at the club. Experiencing promotion and two relegations in these four seasons at Leicester. Played 101 league games and played in the left back position.

He later worked extensively in football, managing St. Johnstone and Queens Park in Scottish football. Remarkably, he managed to win the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup with St. Johnstone, both trophies coming in the 2020-2021 season.

Still 14 games to go in the season, with a special and difficult task ahead. But no one could take on this task better than two very experienced men in the life of football coaching and management.

We are pleased to see two former Leicester players given this opportunity to prove themselves and hopefully lead Leicester to safety in the coming months.

I’m looking forward to seeing if Gary Rowett, with Callum Davidson at his side, can do what we all hope to see this underperforming group of players steadily perform at their top level.
