The Bewers came back on the right track last night with a 5-2 victory over the Pirates. They will try to extend that with a second consecutive victory against the Pirates tonight.
Brandon Woodruff gets the start for the Brewers and he is looking for a bounce-back outing. His last three starts have been difficult, so there are at least three runs earned in each in possibilities. In his last start against the Blue Jays on Sunday, he took the loss behind one of the worst game we have seen from the Brewers. He allowed eight points, but only five of them were earned. He also allowed 10 hits and two walks, while he only hit three. Although Woodruff itself did not have the best game, the defense of the brewers deserves to be blamed for that. Woodruff made one start against the Pirates this season and threw four scoreless innings on August 13.
Mitch Keller starts this afternoon for the Pirates. The Bewers are not strangers for Keller – this is the third time they come across this season. They have seen both sides of Keller, the good and the bad. The first time they met him on 24 May, he was strong and limited the Brewers to one point on four hits. The second time was on August 13 (against Woodruff), and he allowed six points on eight hits in four innings. During his career, Keller has an ERA of 5.59 against the Brewers of 11 Starts of more than 56 1/3 innings.
Christian Yelich is out of the line -up for a fourth consecutive day, but manager Pat Murphy said before the game Yelich moves in the right direction. He will take some swings today and then be again evaluated. In the meantime we get DH Jake Bauers – who had two hits yesterday – fifth in today’s line. An interesting remark for today’s line -up is that Brice Turang beats third. Todd Rosiak notices that with this start, Turang will have beaten all nine places In the stroke order this season. Andrew Vaughn, Caleb Durbin and Joey Ortiz will complete the Infield today. In the meantime, Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick will be the Outfield Manmen. As usual, William Contreras catches the home plate tonight.
For the play-offs, the magic song of the Brewers for a Play-Off spot is seven, and the magical song for the division is 15. The division number fell earlier today after the Cubs lost to the Nationals 2-1.
The first pitch is planned at 5:40 PM CT. It will be on Fanduel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
