Yesterday’s double header did not go like the Milwaukee Brewers hoped, because the Chicago Cubs wiped both games to take a 2-1 series ahead in this rare regular season five gamer. Maybe a belly bug had something to do with it, as Adam McCalvy noticed last night that more than one brewer had to do with gastrointestinal problems.
Tonight the Brewers are sending Jacob Misiorowski to the hill to even try the series, while the Cubs meet with the former brewer Colin Rea. Miz struggled in his last outing, which was his first competitive appearance of any kind in two and a half weeks. In just 1 1/3 innings against the Reds, Misiorowski allowed five points earned on four hits and three walks, but his attack picked him up in a large way-that is the game in which the brewers came back from an 8-1 deficit to win 10-8. Hopefully Misiorowski will be more comfortable tonight.
Rea does the things of Colin Rea. As Brewer fans will certainly remember, he works with a ZO-Zo Arsenaal and, as he did in two years I-94, he performs considerably better than his statistics. This season, REA is 9-5 with an ERA of 3.99 in 121.2 innings, but his FIP is only 4.61 and he only spends 6.7 batters per nine innings, a career low in a season with more than a handful of innings. But he does what he always did in Milwaukee and lets the very good defense go to work behind him. The Bewers defeated a bit a bit in a meeting earlier this season, when they got four points on nine hits in just four innings in a 9-3 victory on July 29. They will want to repeat that performance to bounce back from the suboptimal offensive show last night.
Joey Ortiz, who left last night’s game with a clear injury to his knee, was expected to be kept out of the line -up tonight. But he made it on the Pat Murphy line -up card. Anthony Seigler, who looked good lately, also starts tonight at third base. Christian Yelich will be the designated batter, with Isaac Collins, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick in the Outfield.
UPDATE: There was also a late schedule movement. After the double header yesterday and which probably again a short-like start of Misiorowski will be tonight (planned or otherwise), the Brewers have looked at Tobias Myers-Die lately, and he reminded himself of Carlos Rodriguez. Chad Patrick, the 27th man for yesterday’s double header, has returned to Nashville. It would be suspected that Myers will be back as soon as he is eligible, unless Logan Henderson first becomes healthy.
Tonight’s first throw from Wigley Field is planned at 7:05 pm on Fanduel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
