The Milwaukee Bewers won a satisfactory victory on the Chicago Cubs last night in the first of three in this large series between this division rivals that entered the series that came for the best record in the National League. After he had fallen behind early, the Brouwer attack showed some real life after a slow series versus the Marlins, and Milwaukee ended with a fairly comfortable 8-4 victory.
Tonight, the Cubs Will even watch the series with the help of a former brewer, Colin Rea. And while trade rumors around the Brewers and the League are swallowing, one of the most consistent players of the season, Quinn Priester, will take the hill for the home nine.
Priest has been fantastic. With a 9-2 record he has the best winning percentage in the Majors, and he was thrown to a 3.28 ERA (123 ERA+) and 3.84 FIP in 101 2⁄ ⁄3 Innings. Priest has been successful by limiting walks (3.0 per nine innings, a tick under his career list of Minor League) and to rely on his heavy zinc shed and newly introduced cutter to cause a lot of weak contact. Given the situation where the rotation of Milwaukee was in when the priest arrived at the beginning of April, his contributions to the team were in -depth. Because he was last faced with the Cubs on May 2, when he gave up seven points in 4 1⁄ ⁄3 Innings While the Cubs blew Milwaukee 10-0, priest has allowed only more than 3 runs earned once in a start. Generally in 78 1⁄ ⁄3 Innings since the debacle against Chicago, priest has an ERA of 2.53 and 69 strikeouts up to 18 walks.
On the other hand, Rea continued to defy the statcast gods as a member of the Cubs. According to his baseball Savant page, all that does Rea is good, limit walks. He hardly drops out anyone, he does not throw very hard, his expected era and stroke average are both in the lower 20% of the competition. Yet he continues to do what he did in Milwaukee in 2023 and 2024 – are a completely excellent and reliable starter despite underlying figures that suggest that he should be much worse. In 102 innings this season, REA 8-4 with a 4.06 ERA (94 ERA+) is that 4.96 FIP far exceeds. The good defense of Chicago certainly helps, as Milwaukee did when he was on the other side of this rivalry.
Some quick schedules today: Easton McGee is back and takes the place of Craig Yoho who could not complete yesterday’s game. In the aftermath of the acquisition of Danny Jansen last night, Eric Haase was designated for assignment.
The Bewers send almost the same line -up tonight as last night, the only difference was Anthony Seigler at third base and hits eighth instead of Caleb Durbin. For the Cubs they will touch the same group, except with Reese McGuire in Catcher for Carson Kelly. Danny Jansen is in Milwaukee and available, but will at least start the match on the couch.
The first pitch is again at 6.40 pm on Fanduel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
