The Hornets are that character on a TV show that always messes up and makes a mess of their lives and their families, but they always do just enough to make you love them again and give them another chance. Then of course they break your heart again. After beating OKC and again tonight, I’m like – awww, I like everyone, let’s keep the band together to see if it works (knowing it won’t).
But having all our young talent playing this way with synergy is what we always hoped to see. The Core-ish Four (although the 4 is subject to change, as are Destiny’s Child members) scored 100 last night. The four of them combined to score 56%, and the four were 19-35 from 3! And they were very unselfish, aggressively attacking the basket when necessary and making hard shots. No one played hero ball, Melo was allowed to be the showman, but got assists when his shot didn’t fall in the first half.
This is the vision. And Moose is the perfect big with them, I loved how he was able to switch to LeBron and Luka and keep his own position.
Speaking of LeBron and Luka…. I don’t necessarily dislike either of them. They are incredible generational talents. But I really hate preferential treatment, and then they have the nerve to constantly nag at the referees when they are not pampered.
When LeBron stepped on Miller’s foot and elbowed him in the head, the referees got a chance to watch it in slow motion and said, “Yes, it was in fact Brandon who did the damage!” To lie to our faces like that, I hate the fan duel we have to accept.
And I love how Luka gets to drive into a player’s body and then disappears, and the officials assume it was because he was pushed back. Yet during a ride, Kon is grabbed and beaten in three different ways and receives no love.
So good job team, no need to panic when the lakers hit everything in the first. Sion, Kon, Grant and Moose inject such physicality and strength into the team that it starts to make a big difference.
