Funniest/most insightful comments of the week on Techdirt

of the what is the word dept

This week, MrWilson takes both top spots in insight (And the top spot on the funny side). First, to make sense, it’s a comment on Elon Musk’s disastrous impact on the government:

The worst part about it is not only that the Fox News sponges won’t get the full message, but that they won’t understand when something that’s been cut affects them because they never understood it to begin with. So when something goes wrong with an agency or agency that affects them, they are brainwashed to assume it is the Democrats or just “bad government” in general, and not the specific shitty government they specifically voted for. Conservatives are inevitably right, government is bad and inefficient, but mostly because they make it that way. “Marriage is abusive,” says a husband who beats his wife.

Second, it is a comment on Marjorie Taylor Greene’s criticism of Republicans:

Greene is a troll who realized she was getting less and less return on attacking Democrats for everything, so she switched to attacking the party in power, even if it was “friendly fire.” If the Democrats return to power, she will resume her previous tactics. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was delusional enough to think she was setting herself up to become president by pretending to be an equal opportunity critic. If she were sympathetic, she wouldn’t be a Republican, so there’s no point in accidentally saying the right thing every now and then. She is complicit in the current power structure.

For the editor’s pick on the insightful side, we’ll start with a comment from Thad about Trump as the embodiment of GOP corruption:

Trump is the logical end point, but he is not the cause. This is the party of Nixon, Reagan and Bush.

Then it’s Andrew Raff with a comment on the terrible state of affairs and the challenge of how to solve it:

I continue to believe that the vast majority of the American people disagree with what is going on, don’t like the constant chaos, and together we are making America a diverse, entrepreneurial place for creativity, inclusivity, and community where we can all succeed. How we do that is a big question, but at least knowing that there are people who recognize that these things happen

The funny thing is that, as mentioned, our first place winner is again MrWilson, this time with a comment about the latest measles outbreak:

Hey, now, don’t start jumping down Junior’s throat about this! He is about to discover next week that measles is caused by an imbalance in body fluids and that we need to start bloodletting treatments for all vulnerable children. We should also bring them flowers to ward off any stinking miasma that might infect them. Oh, and don’t play rock ‘n’ roll music around them as that will summon demons which can also cause stomach upset!

Second, it’s an anonymous comment about Elon Musk and DOGE’s failures:

Hard to believe that a program named after a meme and run by a man named Big Balls didn’t produce any positive results.

For the editor’s pick on the funny side, we’ll start with a note from That’s why about six former surgeon generals publicly warning of the danger of RFK Jr:

Now I understand

Six out of seven Surgeon Generals recommend toothpaste to help combat cavities.

The 7th recommends pure cane sugar.

Then it’s an anonymous comment about Mark Zuckerberg’s “courage” in the face of government censorship:

Zuck: Biden asked me nicely, I said “no.” Trump threatened me, I said “yes”. I’m so brave.

That’s all for this week, folks!
