Klaravich Stables’ Fully subscribed doubled her winning streak and fulfilled her 1-2 post-time favoritism in Sunday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Comely, a nine-furlong route for sophomore fillies, at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Trained by five-time Eclipse Award winner Chad Brown, the daughter of Tiz the Law competed in a local 4 1/2-length romp in the Grade 2 Mother Goose on Nov. 8, earning her third lifetime victory after five starts. She graduated here on her debut last October and was away from the races for 11 months before returning in September to step up to the plate with a few allowance levels ahead of Mother Goose.
The win marked the third straight appearance in the event for Brown, who captured the 2023 and 2024 editions with Raging Sea and Pretty Ana respectively.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Fully Subscribed emerged from post 5 of 7 in the top class and rode in the three trails as Hall of Famer John Velazquez and Kappa Kappa took command between her and Noticeable in and marked the first quarter mile in 24.01 seconds on the fast foot.
“She gave herself a good trip,” Prat said. “She broke really well and I was able to get myself into the race and kind of stay with Johnny Velazquez’s filly. I felt like I was in control the whole way.”
Kappa Kappa and Fully Subscribed were free of Noticeable and the tracking Quiet side down the backstretch as the half mile passed in 49.23. The pair widened the gap entering the turn as Prat took his attack a step further and Ricardo Santana, Jr. three-quarters past Quietside in 1:13.56, but Fully Subscribed showed no signs of weakening as they straightened for home and Kappa Kappa conceded on the inside.
All Prat had to do was shake the reins so Fully Subscribed could deftly ride down the Quietside stretch and get a late Our daydreaming girlgiving a few left-handed taps to the crop to keep her going as she rode home a four-length winner in a finishing time of 1:50.55.
Quietside retained the honors by nose over Ourdaydreaminggirl with another 2 3/4 lengths back to Yes, it Tizwhich at the break was deemed to have been in the hands of the assistant starter and was declared a non-starter after an investigation by the stewards. Valtellina was then elevated to fourth place to complete the superfecta, with Kappa Kappa and Noticeable rounding out the order of finish. Ruth was scratched.
Prat said Yes It Tiz’s confused beginning may have changed the pacing scenario he had in mind.
“We thought about it on the outside [Quietside] and Johnny would go [forward] but it was a bit of a messy start and my filly jumped so well, I didn’t want to take anything away from her,” said Prat. “It felt like the pace wasn’t crazy and I wanted to keep her in a good position, but he [trainer Chad Brown] told me she was a good filly and that she ran well – and she showed it.”
Bred in Kentucky by Payson Stud, fully entered was a $300,000 purchase at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training. She is out of the winning Candy Ride mare Sweetbaby and her second dam is the multiple stakes winning millionaire Rutherienne. Fully subscribed won $110,000 in wins, while $3.14 was paid out on a $2 win bet.
