From survival to a thriving: a challenging to reclaim and support open scientific communities | R-Bloggers

Open Science has transformed how research is being carried out, shared and reused. Nevertheless, the organizations in the heart of this transformation are often vulnerable, under -financed and disconnected from each other. Transfer from simply surviving to truly flourishing, five leading open science organizations – The Timpentry’s” OLS” rubsci” pyopsciAnd Pre -review – Get together to put a collective path forward. We are so grateful to the Navigation Fund for supporting this work and invite our communities to the Full proposal Online.

Why this gathering matters

Our work has reformed scientific culture by modeling inclusive, participatory and transparent practices. But despite the global reach and the impact of our communities, we are confronted with shared challenges:

  • Chronic under -financing that undermines our ability to plan and grow.

  • Fragmentation about networks that weaken collective visibility and coordination.

  • Non-sustainable engagement models that rely too much on volunteers without adequate support systems.

Just like a single thread, each of our organizations is only vulnerable; Together we can weave a stronger, more resilient open science material.

Current gaps

Open Science is built on cooperation and transparency, but too often the organizations that build this infrastructure work in silos. The result is unequal visibility, duplicated efforts and missed opportunities to coordinate strategies. Community-driven organizations such as ours face various challenges compared to technical infrastructure projects: recruiting contributors is not sufficient if the structures and motivation to maintain their involvement are lacking.

This fragmentation is not just an internal problem; It is a loss for the broader research ecosystem that depends on our work.

Our approach

We are planning a strategic, personal gathering of leadership of our five organizations. This meeting will concentrate on:

  • Shared financial sustainability: the development of collective, value-released models for financing and generating resources.

  • Cooperating engagement strategies: designing systems that strengthen and connect our communities in roles, regions and lived experiences.

  • Equity-Centralized design: Ensuring accessibility, usability and meaningful participation for all involved.

Facilitated by Wildly openWe are pleased to explore and better understand what works (and not), and then building sustainable models for cooperation and sustainability.

What we want to deliver

  • A coordinated sustainability strategy that reflects the shared values of our organizations.

  • A Funder-Facing Pitch to mobilize resources to support this strategy.

  • Stronger tires among our organizations that go beyond the convocation, creating lasting impact.

The bigger image

This meeting is not an isolated event. It is the first step in scaling up a movement that again represents how values -driven open science organizations can grow together, share resources and strengthen the ecosystem that we serve together. By working together, we can ensure that the future of open science is not only innovative, but also fair, sustainable and resilient.
