From Salento to Aquileia, a bridge of popular music

Two dances far away in time and space, but united by a rhythm that runs through history and collective memory. It is the underlying theme of “From Salento to Aquileia”, a research and study project promoted by the La Notte della Taranta Foundation in collaboration with the Aquileia Foundation, which brings the pizzica pizzica and the furlana into dialogue and explores their common origins and social meaning. The initiative will start on Saturday, October 18 at 6:30 PM in Aquileia with a free concert by the La Notte della Taranta Popular Orchestra in the covered area of the Unesco Terminal, organized in collaboration with the Municipality and accompanied by a discussion table between institutions, researchers and scientists from the two regions involved, Puglia and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The musicians and dancers of the Orchestra Popolare will take to the stage, a symbolic formation of the Salento tradition and protagonist of the famous Concertone di Melpignano, which attracts thousands of people from all over the world every summer. The concert will open a path of research and cultural dialogue between different areas and communities, in the name of music and popular traditions. The project ‘From Salento to Aquileia’ aims to strengthen two dance legacies that, although born in distant regions, share the same vitality and the ability to unite generations and cultures. The aim is to promote a common reflection on the role of popular dances as a language of identity and instrument of collective memory. As the President of the Aquileia Foundation, Roberto Corciulo, states: “This initiative represents the beginning of a path of research and comparison that starts from Aquileia, a symbolic meeting place between cultures and peoples, and that brings intangible heritage and communities into dialogue”. “From Salento to Aquileia” is a project that unites institutions, scientists and local communities with a view to valorizing intangible cultural heritage and strengthening the link between memory, music and identity.
