Many AFPA students and graduates have incredible knowledge, real client wins, and a passion to impact more people. What they don’t always have is a simple way to turn that value into something customers can use again and again, even outside of sessions. That’s where publishing can be powerful, not as a grand life goal, but as a practical way to support people, build credibility, and increase your impact.
AFPA graduate Kim Logan, a gut health nutrition specialist and creator of Gut health made simple: your daily trackerdid just that. She turned her experience and evidence-based training into a 30-day guided tracker designed to help readers identify patterns that impact their gut health and make more informed, sustainable choices. Here’s how she brought the project to life, what the process actually looked like, and why creating your own tool may be more feasible than you think.
Kim Logan is the founder of Grammy goes greena wellness company dedicated to making gut health and anti-inflammatory living simple, realistic and achievable. Via her YouTube channel Gut health made simpleshe shares evidence-based education and practical lifestyle strategies to support people coping with chronic inflammation and autoimmune-related issues.
Gut health made simple: your daily tracker is one of her latest projects, a 30-day guided journal designed to help readers identify patterns that impact their gut health, with built-in tips and resources to support informed, sustainable wellness choices.
What kind of feedback have you received from people using the tracker?
Prior to publication, I offered a free PDF version of the tracker to friends, family, and colleagues for honest feedback. This led to 21 five-star reviews within weeks of publication. The general sentiment is Gut health made simple: your daily tracker is easy to use, eye-opening and a game-changer for overall health.
The most meaningful outcome I’ve seen so far is from the client who inspired me to write the book. Although she has never had digestive or autoimmune problems, she has suffered from persistent anxiety and panic attacks for most of her life. In recent years, she has gained more than 50 pounds due to stress and poor eating habits. Since a lot of my social media focuses on food and its impact on gut health, she came to me looking for a “diet.” I explained that we would be dealing with a sustainable lifestyle rather than a fad.
When I started putting together the videos and free guides I’ve created on stress, anti-inflammatory food choices, sleep management, motivation, exercise, etc., I realized it would be helpful to collect this information in one place, along with regular self-assessments and daily tracker pages, so people could identify triggers AND choices that work for themselves.
This particular client reported within a week that although she still suffered from anxiety, she was able to cope with it more effectively without falling into panic attacks (indicating a gut-brain connection). Within a month she had lost 11 pounds. She still sends me videos of her new recipes that often contain prebiotic fiber and cultured probiotics.
How did obtaining the Gut Health Nutrition Specialist Certificate shape the way you approached this project?
Without this program, I would not have the credibility to write and publish this book. My interest in gut health came from personal experience with an autoimmune disease. My doctor didn’t recommend that I make any changes to my diet or lifestyle to control the condition, so I did it myself after reading a book called Bowel control by Dr. Steven Gundry. Once I realized the effect my gut health was having on my condition, I wanted to understand the science and research available, and somehow I found AFPA! From there I was able to learn more about what happened to me and started helping others.
What specific knowledge or frameworks from AFPA were immediately evident in your book?
The book highlights the impact that diet, exercise, stress management and prioritizing sleep have on the gut microbiome. These four facets were fundamental to the Gut Health Nutrition Specialist program and have given me a solid structure when working with/presenting to others.
What did the Amazon publishing process actually look like for you?
For starters, I didn’t know that to self-publish on Amazon, I had to use Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP Amazon), which required setting up an account. From there I watched videos specific to the type of book I was publishing (little content due to the tracker pages). This is also where I learned about ‘bleeds’ and how it can affect printing. The process was quite simple, but did require a number of man hours. Since my book has tracker pages, I needed images, so I created the design in Canva with specific sizing parameters. I then downloaded the PDF and uploaded it to KDP Amazon.
At this point I was guided through selecting title, author(s), categories, keywords, print details, etc. Once this was all verified, I uploaded my content and was given the option to create my cover through KDP or create my own cover. I chose to create and upload my own cover. I was able to start a preview and approve from there.
However, publishing is only part of the process. To be a successful author, there must be a solid marketing plan.
How long did it realistically take from idea to publication?
I can tell you the exact time because it was an email I sent that inspired me to create the tracker! On 10/6/2025 I put together some of my YouTube videos along with some free tutorials for a client. I had sent the same information to another customer the day before and also sent her a food diary from Amazon. I realized that it wouldn’t be cost-effective to provide clients with food diaries, and that’s when the idea was born to merge the information with 30 days of daily tracking pages! Gut health made simple: your daily tracker was published on 17-11-2025. The caveats to this answer are: I had already created the videos and free guides included in the book, so the time isn’t factored into getting the idea out there, AND if I were to do it again, I would have spent more time on the cover and launch.
What was more difficult than expected? What was easier than expected?
I would say the process was more tedious than expected, which meant a lot of small parts of the process and frustrations along the way. But the option to publish on Amazon makes the process easier.
If someone feels intimidated by self-publishing, what would you honestly tell them?
My honest answer is that the publishing part is not something to be intimidated by. It’s the marketing part that is difficult, humbling, requires deliberate effort, and may require a financial investment. That’s where I am now.
How does it feel to see your name in a book that people can buy, use and benefit from?
It’s a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that I’ve gone through the process of creating something that will actually help people.
Many AFPA students dream of writing a book, but never start. What’s the biggest mindset shift that helped you go from “someday” to “done”?
For me, the change was experiencing and learning science about something that can help others. Yes, I may be able to make money selling books, but the value of what’s inside is far greater than the price of this book.
How does this book fit into your larger vision of your work?
Gut health made simple: your daily tracker has several applications in my bigger vision as a wellness coach. First, for anyone who purchases the book directly, there is the option to subscribe to my weekly newsletter, “Gut Check with Grammy Going Green,” where I share tips, motivation, and practical ways to improve overall well-being. Through this newsletter I will eventually launch an online course (which will take much longer to create than to publish the book). Additionally, once I start working with one-on-one clients more regularly, the book will serve as our framework (and become part of their client package). Finally, because YouTube videos have been recorded, I hope to increase the watch time and number of subscribers to my channel Gut health made Simple.
Would you like to share anything else?
Yes! There are two ways to purchase Gut health made simple: your daily tracker. It is available on Amazon or as printable pdf on my website.
It’s a great resource for people interested in making sustainable upgrades to their wellness. But it is also a great tool for coaches because it provides a tangible asset for clients to work on with the guidance of their coaches. I’d love to hear feedback from anyone who decides to use it on their clients!
