Fritz Verbijsts Alcaraz to continue the perfect Laver Cup day for team world

Taylor Fritz achieved his first Lexus ATP Head2head win in four attempts against Carlos Alcaraz – and his first victory against a reigning number 1 in the PIF ATP ranking list – to extend a perfect Saturday for Team World at Laver Cup.

In a 6-3, 6-2 stunner, the American imposed his powerful game at De Nieuwe Wereld no. 1, dictated at the basic line at every occasion and put constant pressure on the Spaniard from the forefront. Fritz won 16 of 20 net points and closed the match with a Forehand Volley winner, more on Vice -Captain Patrick Rafter than delighted captain Andre Agassi.

“We spoke all day long. It was an honor to play under Andre,” Fritz said after the game. “We both like to share our thoughts about the game. I knew what to do here tonight. The question was whether I could do it.”

Stretched by the San Francisco -Modigte, who pulled out a roar when the star Stephen Curry van Golden State Warriors with Roger Federer ran the field in front of the Muntworp, kept Fritz the volume in Chase Center by bringing the competition to Alcaraz. He kept the only two breaking points with which he was confronted, both in the opening match, according to Infosys ATP statistics, and rattled the last four games of the match for a famous victory.

“The three times I had played Carlos, he broke me every time in the first game,” the American added. “It was huge to come from that first game. I just made sure that I didn’t guess myself.”

In their most recent meeting, Alcaraz won a tight quadranker in the semi -final of Wimbledon in July. Before that, the Spaniard won in straight sets during last year’s Laver Cup in Berlin.

Fritz’s victory set his team a 7-3 advantage in the first-to-13 event, with two points every Saturday match. Earlier in the day, Alex defeated the Minaur Alexander Zverev and Francisco Cerundolo Holger Rune.

Alcaraz played his first singles match since he won his sixth Grand Slam Singles title on the US Open and returned to number 1 in the PIF ATP ranking. The defeat broke a 13-match winning streak that dates from the start of his trophy run at the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 event.
