Manchester United Women travel to Atletico Madrid in their first ever European Cup knockout match.
The Red Devils went through the league stage in an impressive sixth place, having won four of their six matches.
They take on Atletico Madrid in Spain tonight at 8pm GMT before welcoming the Spaniards to The Progress with Unity Stadium on Thursday 19 February.
Fridolina Rolfo Group
Fridolina Rolfo signed with the Red Devils this summer and was a revelation.
She scored the winning goal tonight against the opponent in the competitive phase of the Champions League in October.
The Swede has scored seven goals in 21 games this season and has been one of the team’s most consistent players. Unfortunately, according to the official club website”Fridolina Rolfo, who scored the winner for Atleti in October, is not available for this, as are the recent absentees Leah Galton and Ella Toone.”
Still a strong team
Despite Rolfo’s absence, United have been boosted by their new signings in January.
The site reports that “the group for the knockout play-off first leg also includes Hanna Lundkvist, Lea Schuller and Ellen Wangerheim, who could make their European debut for the club.”
Experienced centre-back Millie Turner is also back in the fold after her injury problems earlier this season.
In-form midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme, who has scored three goals this calendar year, is also in the first-team squad and will be hoping to impress tonight.
Last time in Madrid, Dominique Janssen was sent off and she will hope to make a much more positive contribution to tonight’s crucial match.
