Emma Raducanu will hope to achieve a shock result when she opens to court on the fourth day of the French.
The 22-year-old came in the first round through a fascinating test to beat Wang Xinyu 7-5 4-6 6-3 and showed a series of power shots and agile touches, even though it was under the weather for the most of the game. The victory earned her a place in the next round where she takes on Iga Swiatek, a five-fold Grand Slam winner who won four of the last five French open titles.
Swiatek is the defending champion and wiped Rebecca Sramkova Opzij 6-3 6-3 in her opening match on Monday. She has an unbeaten record against Raducanu and is the tough favorite to win today.
Elsewhere, the title defender Carlos Alcaraz of the men’s title defender continues with his striving for another major and precedes the Raducanu match when he takes on Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan.
