Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar will make his bare knuckle debut, as expected this Saturday at BKFC 82 in Newark, New Jersey.
“The answer” Edgar, who withdrew from the mixed martial arts competition in 2022, was planned to get a colleague -for example UFC and New Jersey -resident Jimmie Rivera on the map.
Instead, Rivera will now be confronted with Timothy Mason according to a Report from nj.com.
BKFC President David Feldman confirmed that the promotion was hopeful that the UFC legend will compete in the future for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
“After further assessment with our medical officer, we decided that Frankie Edgar would not compete this Saturday,” said Feldman. “We’re going to look at it and see what his future looks like, but he won’t compete this Saturday.”
One can only speculate that Edgar may have brought himself to the position where both the promotion and the committee would look a little deeper at his status before he cleans him up to fight. With both fans and family against Edgar’s return to fight, the attention grew to health problems that could prevent him.
“My wife was a bit worried about me who did this too,” Edgar told MMA Fighting in September. “I do this for so long, it’s hard to walk away. I don’t go into this naive. I understand the risks. I am willing to take that chance, I think you could say it. The juice must be worth the squeeze, and I feel it is.
“They were all honest about it.
BKFC 82 takes place in the Prudential Center and is tormented by “Platina” Mike Perry vs. Jeremy Stephens.
