Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was sent off after catching Casemiro’s ankle with his studs as he tried to win the ball in the 29th minute. It is the centre-back’s second second of the season and will result in a four-match ban.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the Red Devils before the break, before Bruno Fernandes doubled their lead in the second half to secure a fourth successive Premier League win.
Thomas Frank ‘proud’ of Spurs with ten men after defeat to Man Utd
“I think the first thirty minutes were a good away game in a difficult place, against a team with confidence and flow,” Frank told TNT Sports.
“After the red card, I am very proud of the players. The resilience, staying in the game mentality, sometimes still a threat when you try to create something. Very proud of them. Then of course we just made the three attacking substitutions and then we conceded the second.”
“I think we played with ten men in the last 60/70 minutes. They did everything they could. Very proud of the fans. You could hear them loud the whole game.”

On Romero’s red card, Frank added: “First and foremost, Cristian has no intention of following up and getting a red card. He’s clearly going for the ball. Unfortunately, as the rules are, it’s going to be a red card. Cristian apologized to his teammates in the dressing room.”
“It is what it is. We have to deal with it. I think a big area we have worked hard on is resilience. We didn’t get the result out of it today, but what they showed on the pitch today, the players, was incredible. We have to focus on Newcastle on Tuesday night.”
“Just concentrate on the next game. That’s Newcastle on Tuesday night.”
