FPL New Signing sessions: Is New Man Utd Vooruit Sesko a must-have?

He didn’t play in the friendly Saturday against Fiorentina – but Benjamin Sesko Is now officially a player of Manchester United.

The signing of the Slovenian striker was announced a few hours before the last Kickabout from United for the season, with the acquisition of the big money and then paraded for the Old Trafford Faithful.

Ruben Amorim’s side has secured the signature of Sesko from RB Leipzig and reports the competition from Newcastle United, for a reported reimbursement of approximately £ 74 million.

There is already a wealth of United Attacking Midfield Talent to choose from in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – but can Sesko come up as a striking option?

We look in this reconnaissance report.

Short history

Broken up by Red Bull Salzburg as a 16-year-old in 2019, he was immediately lent to the club’s feed team in the Austrian Second Division, FC Livering. He made his debut in the same year.

It was not long before he scored 21 goals in 29 performances during the 2020/21 campaign and earned a call-up for the first team of Salzburg the following season.

Sesko handed over more responsibility in 2021/22 and regularly played in the attack of Salzburg and made 37 performances, including six in the Champions League. He scored 11 goals and walked in with six assists, which helped Salzburg to the Austrian Double.

In 2022/23 he saved it, scored 16 goals in 30 league games and securing a second consecutive league title.

This gave him a switch to Bundesliga Side RB Leipzig in 2022. He quickly adapted and delivered 14 goals in his debut season in all competitions, even though he was often turned in a busy forward line.

Sesko’s mix of athletics, power and technical skills earned him comparisons with fellow Red Bull Product Erling (£ 14.0 million). His campaign from 2024/25 confirmed his reputation when he scored 21 times in all competitions and became a regular starter.

Sesko also has 40 performances under his belt for the Slovenian national team and scores 16 times. He is also the youngest score ever in the history of the country.

Sesko: playing style

Sesko is a powerful, right foot Center-Forward that was mainly shown last season in a front two for RB Leipzig, often combined with Loïs Opena In a flexible 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 system under Marco Rose.

Standing on 6ft 5ins, he offers a clear air threat, but also has surprising agility for his size. His movements are intelligent and varied – and will often use his pace to turn behind or drop deep to connect the game.

Despite the fact that he was looked out of balance whether little has applied the background, he consistently produces ridiculously powerful recordings thanks to his strength in the lower body. He prefers to meet with strength, but can quickly adjust when dealing with bent fitting, poor touches or filthy structure in the box.

Sesko’s positional versatility also saw him floating in broad channels, especially on the left, during his time at both Leipzig and Salzburg. From there he would either cut in for a shot or combine with overlapping runners. His ability to work between the lines and beat defenders in tight spaces adds a different dimension to his game, making it more than just a traditional no. 9.

Sesko: The statistics

The variety of goal attempts from Sesko is impressive. Just over 20% of his efforts (and three of his 13 goals) in the 2024/25 Bundesliga came out of his head, with a further approximately 15% of his weaker left foot.

More than a third (36.7%) of his 68 shots also came from outside the box. That total of 25 external efforts was more than any current FPL-forecast attempt until last season. Liam Delap (£ 6.5 million) was closest to 20.

Only four of his shots came from the six-year box in 2024/25. That is 13 less than Hugo Ekitike (£ 8.5 million) managed in the Bundesliga last season. Erling (£ 14.5 million) had a competition-best 21 of those on these coasts.

Two of Sesko’s 13 goals also came from the penalty spot and it is certainly unlikely that he will get spot kicks at United.

Where Sesko fits United

Saturday’s friendly friendship was about a good advertisement for Sesko as the striker could have hoped.

Mason Mount (£ 6.0 million) De Lijn led for United against the Serie -Outfit, a week thereafter Mathues Cunha (£ 8.0 million) had done the same against Everton. In both cases it was obvious that the Red Devils need a real frontman.

So, as soon as the Slovenian is active, it will probably be Sesko at the top, with Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo (£ 8.0 million) Working as the two ’10s’ behind him. The two will take passages behind him to Sesko and also run from his shoulder when he holds the ball up.

While Bruno Fernandes (£ 9.0 million) will be used deeper as a result, can it still benefit?

Fernandes created more opportunities (91) than any other Premier League player last season. In fact, the Portuguese playmaker has awarded the competition for opportunities created in every campaign he played, except one – when he finished second.

This is quite amazing, since United does not yet have to take full advantage of its creativity in the competition. Fernandes would like Sesko to start those opportunities into goals.

Mbeumo also rank strongly with opportunities created last season (70), which further underlines the need of United to a real no. 9 at Old Trafford.

Is Sesko worth buying in FPL?

Only 22 more, the Sesko route continues to rise – and Manchester United will hope that he will be ready to lead the line at Old Trafford.

The combination of height, speed, strength and finishing instinct of the Slovenian makes him an intriguing fantasy option for 2025/26, especially if he is competitive.

But there are reservations.

The relative shortage of the opportunities with a high XG is one: he only took a shot in the box every 55 minutes last season. Maybe play like a chief at the top,

With Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea in the first five games of United, maybe wait a little until adding him to be wise. It would also enable us to see how he adapts to the new competition and new club.

Given that he did not get a few minutes in the last friendship against Fiorentina, you would also wonder if Amorin throws him directly against Arsenal.
