Most knowledgeable Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will know by now that we all received a free transfer fee ahead of the Gameweek 16 deadline.
This, the Premier League has explained, is to help us deal with the impact of players leaving to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Because participating players must join their national team at least a week before their first match, the vast majority of affected FPL resources – including Muhammad Salah (£14.0 million), Bryan Mbeumo (£8.5 million) and Indian education (£6.5m) – should be available for selection in Gameweek 16 before he departs.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TRANSFERRED FROM GAMEWEEK 15?
Unfortunately, the rule that we can collect a maximum of five free transfers at a time still applies here.
For example, if you roll two in Gameweek 16, you only get a) your normal weekly transfer and b) two extra.
SHOULD IT BE USED ALL WEEK/SAME TIME?
Luckily, you don’t have to use all your free transfers from the AFCON top-up this week. You don’t have to use them all at once either.
In fact, you don’t even have to use it each of that for Gameweek 16 itself – but again, remember that you wouldn’t then be able to collect six free transfers for Gameweek 17, due to the five limit.
But it’s useful to know that if your team is already fairly well set up to deal with AFCON, there’s no rush to use them all.
CAN I USE A CHIP WITH MY FIVE FREE TRANSFERS?
It’s a simple ‘yes’ that you can use all your free transfers at the same time as playing your Bench Boost or Triple Captain chip.
As for the free hit or wildcard…
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TRANSFERS IF I GET A FREE HIT IN GAMEWEEK 16?
As with any other Gameweek, any Free Transfers you collected in the weeks leading up to playing your Free Hit will be retained when you return to your original team the following week.
So if you don’t use any of the five free transfers we all have in Gameweek 16 and instead opt for Free Hit, all five of these free transfers will still be waiting for you in Gameweek 17.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TRANSFERS IF I WILDCARD IN GAME WEEK 16?
Likewise, if you decide to use Wildcard in Gameweek 16, you’ll keep all the free bank transfers – that is, the full top-up of five, in this case – from Gameweek 17, essentially giving you the option for another “mini-Wildcard” if you so choose.
Of course, the main difference between a Free Hit and a Wildcard is that the latter’s (unlimited) changes to your FPL team are permanent.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I USE SOME OF MY FREE TRANSFERS NOW AND ACTIVATE A CHIP LATER IN THE WEEK?

In short, activating a Free Hit or Wildcard – whether now or one minute before the deadline – means that you will not use your free transfer credit for Gameweek 16.
You can still use five free transfers in Gameweek 17.
