We have received our first view of the most important set-set makers of each team in Gameweek 1 from Fantasy Premier League (FPL).
Many of the players involved in Dead-Ball situations took away where they left in 2024/25 or in the preseason.
But there are a few new set-play pretenders to report on following the opening weekend.
Based on the official OPTA data in our Premium membershipHere is a breakdown of the final round of competitions.
Corners + crossed free kicks
Direct free kick
Fines
Observations
New penalty customers?

Matt O’Riley (£ 5.5 million) took the first Premier League fine of the season, after he also scored 38 of 2024/25 from the place in Gameweek.
The successor of Joao Pedro (£ 7.5 million) then? Not necessarily: on both Saturday and on the last day of last season, Danny Welbeck (£ 6.5 million) was not on the field. The experienced striker was also converted from 12 Yards in 2024/25.
Both O’RiLey and Hurzeler Name Check have Welbeck in quotes after the game that you can read here.
There is perhaps less doubt about who is the first in line in Brentford.
Of Bryan Mbeumo (£ 8.0 million) away and Yoane warned (£ 7.5 million) set to follow, Igor Thiago (£ 6.0 million) was responsible when the bees won a spot kick on Sunday.
New signing sessions on taking tasks in the corner

Florian Wirtz (£ 8.5 million) was directly in the set piece Mix in Liverpool, and took all six of the corners of the Reds and also from both sides of the pitch.
Budget Burnley Defender Quilindschy Hartman (£ 4.0 million) took four corners of the Clarets’ right and one crossed free kick. Midfielder Josh Cullen (£ 5.0 million) had service on the other side of the field.
After they had seen a role playing in Dead-Ball situations in the preseason, there was no surprise to see Granit xhaka (£ 5.0 million), Bryan Mbeumo (£ 8.0 million) and Mohammed Kudus (£ 6.5 million) All perform for Sunderland, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Chelsea’s Stem (£ 6.5 million), that of Brentford Jordan Henderson (£ 5.0 million) and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jhon Arias (£ 5.5 million) all came out of the bank to take a set of game for their respective parties.
New left wing trays El Hadji Diouf (£ 4.5 million) and David Moller Wolfe (£ 4.5 million) even took one each for their new parties. Maxim de Cuyper (£ 4.5 million) is not in the list above: he has put the ball forward for one Mats Wieffer (£ 5.0 million) The chance of Saturday led – but because it was not technically a cross, it is not registered here by OPTA!
Anderson – Not just a DC magnet

Elliot Anderson (£ 5.5 million) Perhaps mainly appealed to his potential for defensive contribution (DC), but the budget -midfielder is also at stake for Nottingham Forest.
He took seven from Forest’s eight corners/crossed free kicks and went close to getting an assist for the difficult trees opener:
After assessment there will be no assist because of two defensive accents before Chris Wood falls. https://t.co/8aacouapsq

Unlike the names that are already mentioned in this article, there were other cheap picks to be on the corners, Sunderland were defender Trai Hume (£ 4.5 million), Aston Villas Lucas Digne (£ 4.5 million) and that of Brentford Fabio Carvalho (£ 5.0 million).
However, Digne’s only corner was a ‘short’ ::

Hamed Traore (£ 4.5 million) and Andy Irving (£ 4.5 million), two of the cheapest midfielders came into the corners – but it is not expected that they play large parts this season in the starting Xis of their side and they were indeed only on the weekend.
