Jenni The Fox will compete in her second Southside Racing final race.

Jenni The Fox may only be a maiden winner, but trainer Lucy Yeomans believes there is great racing success in the mare.

However, Yeomans is realistic enough to know that this is unlikely to happen in The Supernova (1400m) at Pakenham on Saturday, but the trainer says the mare will not disgrace herself.

The Supernova has assembled a strong field, with Group 1 winners Here To Shock and Pinstriped, along with multiple Group 1 seed and Group 2 winner Private Eye from Sydney, in the hunt for a share of the $1 million prize money on offer.

Saturday’s race is the second of two final races conducted by Southside Racing, with Jenni The Fox driving in the final race for owner Tony Ottobre’s Cape Schank Racing.

The first was The Meteorite (1200m) at Cranbourne on 22 November, in which Jenni The Fox took an unlucky fourth place and stormed home at the heels of the placegetter.

“I think she is a serious horse, and we will see the best of her in six to 12 months,” Yeomans said.

“She can run a really fast section, the 1,400 meters is sufficient, but there are some questions on the track because it has been a bit sticky and if the rain comes it could take the shine off her, but everyone is in the same boat.

“She is a wonderful horse to train because you know she will turn up on race day and give the best of herself, in all conditions, and every time we run her she raises the bar higher and higher.

“This is again a tougher task, so she will have to raise the bar again.

“We are not confident yet, but I am confident she will perform well.”

Yeomans said Jenni The Fox appreciated the fast pace set last time at Cranbourne and with a little more luck might have finished in the placings.

On Saturday, Jenni pulled The Fox gate 12 and Yeomans said they would just take their medicine.

Jett Stanley will take over the ride on Saturday after injuries to Blake Shinn and Declan Bates who have ridden Jenni The Fox in her last three starts.

“Hopefully I’m not the curse,” Yeomans joked.

“Jett rode for Tony, and he was his choice, and he came in and did some work for me.

“It’s obviously a big task for him on a big day, but we think he’s ready for it.

“I took her to Pakenham to gallop on Tuesday and Jett sat on her.

“She is quite an easy mare to ride, but at least he has sat on her now and ridden her beautifully, so we are looking forward to Saturday.”
