Four students from the Calcutta University were attacked after they were called ‘Bangladeshi’ in a heated exchange near Seandah Station

Four Calcutta University (CU) students were reportedly attacked near the Seandah train station in the heart of Kolkata and were reportedly mentioned “Bangladeshi” for speaking in Bengaals on Wednesday (August 20) Night.

One of the students, a resident of the Carmichael hostel from CU, reportedly had visited a mobile store under the Seandah Bridge on Wednesday evening to buy mobile accessories. The student claimed that during the negotiation, the argument increased and the seller called him a “Bangladeshi” because he had spoken in Bengal’s.

The student later went back to the store with three of his friends, and all four were reportedly attacked and attacked. The four were taken to the Medical College and the hospital for primary treatment.

Students protest

The tensions then escalated the other students from the hostel about the attack and organized a protest outside the Muchipara police station. They also submitted a written complaint to the local police.

“They spoke in the Hindi and called me Bangladeshi and said that I had to do something against him if I have the capacity. They went to grab my mobile and tore my clothes,” Afidi Mollah, one of the students were attacked, told reporters. He also claimed that the sellers attacked him and his friends.

“We asked them to speak in Bengal’s after they kept talking in Hindi, we said we don’t understand Hindi. We feel unsafe because we speak in our mother tongue, Bengal’s,” said Masum Miya, another attacked student.

He claimed that they were tagged as Bangladeshi for speaking in Bengal’s. He also claimed that the perpetrators had sharp objects and hockey sticks that they used to intimidate the students.

According to sources, two of the accused were arrested on Thursday morning and will be produced in a city court during the day. Kolkata police sources at the Muchipara police station confirmed the same with The Hindu.
