It was a card that was wildly mocked by fans, much to the chagrin of UFC President and CEO Dana White this week. Still, UFC Vegas 110 produced some memorable segments, even if they weren’t always for the right reasons.
One of the four Performance of the Night bonus winners fell into that category. Ante Delija appeared to finish Waldo Cortes-Acosta in the evening’s heavyweight co-main event, lighting up the fence. But as the replay showed and the referee caught in real time, Cortes-Acosta was stabbed in the eye near the start of the deluge.
Despite Delija thinking he had won, Cortes-Acosta was given recovery time, chose to continue and immediately knocked out Delija.
In the main event, headliner Steve Garcia received another Performance of the Night bonus for his TKO finish of David Onama. The featherweight bout was much maligned for lacking the proper star power of the main event, and Onama’s name was on the marquee for the first time in his UFC uniform. The end came at 3:34 of the first round.
Newcomer Donte Johnson, for a guillotine choke submission of middleweight Sedrique Dumas, and flyweight Allan Nascimento, who put away Cody Durden with an Anaconda choke to open the UFC Vegas 110 main card, picked up the remaining bonuses.
No Fight of the Night was awarded on Saturday; all four bonus winners will receive $50,000 for their efforts.
