Bravend heavy rainfall, a new party of more than 6,900 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar -Basis camp in Jammu on Saturday (July 5, 2025) to visit the Amarnath sanctuary in South Kashmir Himalaya, said civil servants.
About 30,000 pilgrims have prayed in the 3,880 meter-high cave shell since 3 July. When the 38-day annual Yatra started from the twin tracks in Pahalgam in the Anantnag and Baltal district in the Ganderbal district.
The fourth party of 6,979 pilgrims – 5,196 men, 1,427 women, 24 children, 331 Sadhus and Sadhvis and one transgender – left the Bhagwati Nagar -Basis camp in two separate convoys between 3.30 hours and 4,05 hours in the middle of tight safety, said civil servants.
While 4,226 pilgrims left in 161 vehicles for Nunwan Base Camp for the 48 kilometers of traditional Pahalgam route, 2,753 pilgrims went on their way to the shorter but steeper 14 kilometer ball route in 151 vehicles, they said.

The annual Amarnath Yatra, which started on Thursday (July 3, 2025), started early in the morning from the twin track-the traditional 48 km Nunwan-Pahalgam route and the 14 km Balal route.

The batches of pilgrims, including men, women and Sadhus, departed from the Nunwan -Basiskamp in Pahalgam, in the Anantnag of South Kashmir and Baltal Base Camp in Sonamarg area of the Ganderbal of Central Kashmir on Thursday 3, July 3, 3,).

The unprecedented safety cover this year will be in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which means 26 civilians are dead in the Baisaran Meadow, who falls near the traditional Nunwan-Chandanwari Yatra route in the Anantnag district. The Yatra started on Thursday (July 3, 2025).

With the new departure, a total of 24,528 pilgrims left Jammu -Basiskamp for the valley since Wednesday, when Lieutenant -Governor Manoj Sinha of the Yatra of Jammu marked.
The Yatra continues as usual, albeit in stricter safety, despite the Pahalgam attack of April 22 in which 26 men were shot.
The Bhagwati Nagar-Basis camp is placed under a multi-tier security change. More than 3.5 Lakh people have registered online for the pilgrimage so far.
Thirty-four accommodation centers are set up in Jammu and radio frequency identification (RFID) Tags are issued to the pilgrims. Twelve counters have been set up for a registration of pilgrims on site.
