The UFC exit from Martin Buday has been discussed within the MMA community and one known personality has shared his opinion.
Buday rides on a three-fighter-winning series and he went 7-1 under the UFC banner. He was even arranged at number 15 in the official UFC Heavyweight Ranklists. Eventually the decision was made not to renew the Buday deal. Those who argue against the decision of the UFC feel that there is no room to be picky with talent in the heavyweight division, while others claim that Buday would never make an important splash.
During a recent episode of the “Weeging in” PodcastJosh Thomson said he thinks it is possible that the UFC did not like Buday’s fighting style (via Inappropriate).
“Let’s not pretend that there are a lot of large heavyweights,” said Thomson on his podcast “weighing in”. “If you want to beat him, let him beat so that he goes away. Didn’t sign again? One of the two things happened: the contract negotiations did not go well or he was just so boring that they were:” Look, we want nothing to do with you.
Regardless of the reasoning, Thomson believes that this was a mistake by the UFC, given the state of the heavyweight division.
“What I get upset, however, is to stop saying that you have the best hunters in the world if you push away some of the best hunters,” Thomson added. “This man is 7-1 in a weak heavyweight division where you need the best hunters. You can say that this man is the best hunter. Let him fight the boys in the top seven, top eight. If he wins, he wins. Maybe the cream rises to the top. Maybe you get a great performance from him that would never have been him.”
Martin Buday recently told Ariel Helwani that he received various offers to compete for other promotions. He admitted that PFL and KSW are currently interested.
