Former UFC ‘champ’ vows to ‘stop watching MMA’ if Sean O’Malley earns title shot after win at UFC 324

One of Sean O’Malley’s longtime opponents is willing to stop watching UFC fights if he gets his next shot at the bantamweight title.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley snapped the first losing skid of his career last Saturday at UFC 324. In an instant classic, O’Malley defeated streaking contender Song Yadong by unanimous decision to earn his first win since UFC 299.

O’Malley returned to the bantamweight title mix with his victory at UFC 324. His former rival, Petr Yan, recently regained the bantamweight title by defeating two-time foe Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 323.

Following his performance at UFC 324, O’Malley made the case for another title shot, potentially skipping the line of Dvalishvili and others. If O’Malley gets his next shot at Yan, a former two-division UFC champion believes it could be sport-crushing.

Henry Cejudo Believes Sean O’Malley’s Title Title After UFC 324 Could Ruin MMA

In a recent episode of the Pounds 4 Pounds podcast, Henry Cejudo spoke about O’Malley and the state of the bantamweight division after UFC 324.

“You can’t just sit there and think that if you just wait and surpass Umar Nurmagomedov or Cory Sandhagen, just, ‘Oh yeah, I’m next. Let me just kick it and see.’ Bro, that’s not it,” Cejudo said of O’Malley.

“And if the UFC does that, I’m done watching the sport. That would be ridiculous. It’s almost like Sean is a little delusional. He still thinks he’s a little bit Conor, where he wants to wait.”

“Merab really deserves it for what he was able to do,” Cejudo continued about O’Malley’s title fight. “‘I’ll just wait and then I’ll get the winner,’ I say man, that’s not how it works.” (h/t Bloody elbow)

Cejudo and O’Malley have history. They had an infamous back-and-forth backstage after one of O’Malley’s previous fights, and the two have traded barbs ever since.

Cejudo announced his retirement last month at UFC 323 after a legendary run in the Octagon. As for O’Malley, he may be looking to reclaim the bantamweight throne at Cejudo’s behest.
