Monson Native Kristopher Carr will be a split punishment for the crash that Christopher Zike killed on October 29, 2021.
A former Staatstrooper argued guilty of a murder of motor vehicles from 2021 in which a 51-year-old Winthrop-man killed, said prosecutors.
Monson -resident Kristopher Carr will serve a split punishment for the crash that Christopher Zike killed on October 29, 2021, said the Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office in a press release.
Carr, an off-duty is Trooper at the time of the crash, drove under the influence with his girlfriend in the passenger seat. After leaning forward to kissing his girlfriend, Carr lost control of the vehicle. Carr’s SUV waved and hit the median, causing Zike’s motorcycle to crash into the SUV, said officials.
Zike was on his way to a 2 -hour service in Ikea in Stoughton at the time of the crash and was declared dead in Boston Medical Center after he had been thrown out of his motorcycle, said prosecutors.
According to the press release, statements and videos confirmed that CARR consumed several alcoholic beverages on the evening of October 28 and the morning of October 29.
Carr was in the probationary period of his employment at the State Police and was fired after the crash.
Carr was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, with 18 months and the balance that was suspended for three years by Judge Mary Ames.
Ames also ordered an evaluation of substance abuse and any necessary follow-up treatment.
The Carr driving license will also be suspended for 15 years, per state law.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Zike’s brother said that Zike was planting a garden in the Winthrop Senior Center and “was interested and invested in his community in Winthrop.”
“Today we were remembered in a most tragic way how a few extremely bad decisions ended one life and influenced so many others,” said Hayden during Wednesday’s hearing. “The life of Christopher Zike will be remembered and mourns by his family and friends, while the life of Kristopher Carr will take a completely different path than he was probably planning, all because of his decisions and actions that evening and morning.”
