Although he also has a top learner about black brotherhoods and women’s clubs, Kimbrough previously worked at various historic black institutions, and led leadership roles at Dillard University and Philander Smith University. Before he came to the UNCF, he served as an interim president of Talladega College.
Now Kimbrough will work directly together with the president’s office, led by Dr. Michael L. Lomax, President and CEO of the UNCF. Lomax also told UNCF employees that Kimbrough was chosen to become a “transformational” strength within the organization.
“The appointment of Dr. Kimbrough is the highlight of our long search for a transformational leader,” said Dr. Michael L. Lomax van de Hiring a decision, according to Various training.
Kimbrough will supervise four large UNCF initiatives while starting his term of office. The programs all focus on deeper involvement while working with their 37-person institutions.
This includes the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute (FDPRI), which offers critical data and analysis of HBCUs and their place in the academic world. Other initiatives include the Institute for Capacity Construction (ICB), which sets up Kimbrough as the chief advisor for these member schools, and the HBCUV Digital Learning Solution, which improves online learning opportunities for students. These programs will also be accompanied by others in development that black young people serve in the K-12 Education Pipeline.
As a former HBCU president himself, Kimbrough also understands the challenges that these leaders are confronted with. Now he will advise them through UNCF while promoting their institutions for a stronger future.
“I had the great honor to serve four UNCF memberships, three as president, and for more than 20 years I have benefited from the advocacy and support of UNCF,” Kimbrough said Various training. “With this position I can go back to UNCF, the member institutions and students.”
