The Adelaide-Aonraating good known as the home of the famous Australian artist and sculptor the late John Downie has sold for the most part of this life in a deal of millions of dollars.
Ownership records show that the circa-1890 Dulwich Villa on 28 Gurney RD, who was owned by the Downie family from 1917 to 2021, was broken up for more than $ 3 million.
Sales agent Penny Riggs, from Alexander Real Estate, said that a local family bought the four bedrooms, a bathroom in a bathroom with plans to renovate it.
“Everyone wants to renovate – Construction costs will be a bit priceless for people,” she said.
“It makes it very difficult for people.”

The Dulwich building on 28 Gurney RD was once the home of the late John Downie, a famous artist and sculptor of Australia.
He painted two murals that stay in the house – one is in the access road.
The other is located on a ceiling canvas in one of the living rooms of the house.
The murals are striking features of the house.
While the new owners were planning to put their own stamp on the building, Mrs. Riggs said that two murals were painted by Dr. DOWIE – One a ceiling canvas in the living room and dining room, and another around the arch in the access hall – would probably continue to exist.
“I think they will keep them,” she said.
Dr. DOWIE – known for his paintings and sculptures, many of which can be found in Adelaide, including the Three Rivers Fountain in Victoria Square and the Dia in Rundle Mall – inherited the building of his parents.
Unlike when he served in World War II and spent a few years abroad to sharpen his art skills, he lived in the house from the age of two until he died in 2008.

The building has been restored to its former glory.
It has four bedrooms and a bathroom.
Different living spaces can be found everywhere in the house.
The house has been loved for many years.
His niece Penny Downie lived in the house for 13 years and used the studio that made her uncle by beating a wall that separated two bedrooms to work on her own art.
The most recent owner of the property, an architect with an interest in heritage houses, also renovated the house since the purchase in 2021 for $ 2.53 million.
Mrs. Riggs said that part of his renovation included changing Penny’s studio back into two bedrooms.
“The last time (the house) included Penny Dowie’s Painting Studio, now it has two extra bedrooms,” she said when it came back to the market in August.
