However, there is a price to pay for floating in the confines of pure luxury. Starting at $159,200 for the Autobiography P550e SWB and heading towards the $180,000 mark, it becomes nothing but a dream for most people in need of a large SUV, further increasing its function as a status symbol. Do you really need to spend $160,000 on an SUV to have a complete experience? Or could you look outside Range Rover to discover another car company originally based in the luxury sector that could offer a surprisingly good experience for half the money?
The 2026 Lexus RX 500h F Sport
This unsuspecting beast’s name sure has a lot of letters and numbers in it – but do they mean business? Starting at $66,850, expect this to be a mere skeleton compared to the Range Rover. With a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine and the addition of electric motors, it’s not like the Lexus is slow. This is right at the top of the RX range tree, just as Autobiography is with the Range Rover range, so it’s not like you’re comparing a base specification and a maximum specification at half the cost. This Lexus is the real deal.

A luxury heritage with sports car performance
These specs are nothing to scoff at, and stretch the idea of a Lexus as perhaps just a ‘sensible luxury car’. Carrying around a weight not far from 10,000 pounds, in a feature-rich car, in something that feels sporty, is an impressive feat, and one that in many ways the Range Rover Autobiography can’t even match. With an emphasis on complete luxury, the Autobiography won’t exactly scratch the itch of spirited driving, as the Lexus is partly designed to do.
Comfort when driving fast, comfort when cornering well
It’s all well and good to throw a muscular hybrid powertrain into a big vehicle and see impressive acceleration and power figures, but the really difficult cornerstone to achieve in an SUV is having that big, comfortable vehicle be able to corner in a way that lives up to the “sport” name. But Lexus has made some considerations regarding the Lexus RX 500h to prevent it from becoming a wallowing nightmare through the bends.
The nifty AWD system electronically distributes torque from front to rear within milliseconds to maximize grip in compromising situations and provide confidence in cornering grip. Combined with this, the rear wheels can steer up to four degrees to increase cornering responsiveness, making it feel like a smaller, more balanced car through the bends. The intelligent chassis and suspension provide a capable platform, MacPherson struts front and multi-link rear, and damping that is continuously adjusted in real time at each wheel. This can reduce body roll and create more stability over bumps in the road surface.

The sporty Lexus is a luxurious place to be
Like the Range Rover, the Lexus offers its own unique interior atmosphere. And while it’s less focused on pure elegance, it has a balanced and sporty feel, combined with a truly comfort-oriented and well-equipped list of interior features that may impress you. The creamy leather options on the Autobiography are not present on the Lexus. Instead, you have a black leather canvas and the option of red leather and stitching. Sportier suede can also be found inside, with metallic silver accents bridging the soft-touch platforms that surround the interior. The interior captures the spirit of the car itself very accurately. Balanced and purposeful, but also in abundance.
Unique RX 500h F Sport performance features
Redesigned seats for fantastic support, ventilation and warmth
Mood lighting, including 64 colors and a plethora of themes
Aluminum pedals, exclusive stitching and high-quality materials
Emphasis on effective noise reduction, creating a quiet atmosphere
High-quality audio with optional 21-speaker Mark Levinson sound
What do you receive with the basic specification?
For $16,000 less you can save even more money and opt for the base spec 350h variant. This version still includes the AWD system, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging and the same commendable cargo space as the 500h, although it does reduce some of the magic that takes the 500h to the next level. Expect an acceptable but more subdued 246bhp engine, which certainly gets the job done, but loses the sporting flair of its counterparts.
You also lose out on a list of other key interior features that make the 500h a car with a seriously premium feel. The larger 14-inch infotainment screen has been replaced with a 9.8-inch screen, losing an element of immersion compared to the higher trim model. You also lose the head-up display, 360-degree viewing monitor, powerful premium speaker system and digital rearview mirror. Unfortunately, among the hits in terms of performance elements and comfort aspects, you also have a vehicle that falls short in the marriage of the two pillars of luxury and speed.

Is the Range Rover’s overwhelming status too hot to handle?
There’s no doubt that the Range Rover Autobiography is the most opulent experience. Luxury that the 500h F Sport cannot directly combat. But when you look at value, you encounter a completely different way of thinking. How much will I use and feel the Autobiography that the Lexus does not have, and is the Range Rover a better car for me personally?
The Range Rover has the power on its side, the Lexus has balance
In terms of raw numbers on a spec sheet, the Range Rover is more capable. And of course, the Range Rover beat the Lexus in a straight-line drag race. But power and engine don’t necessarily translate into a car that feels sporty. At 6,000 pounds, the Autobiography is simply too cumbersome to ever be used as a tool for anything that requires real agility and dynamic balance. And that’s not the goal; it is intended to be a fully loaded, prestigious experience for carrying passengers with ease and in complete, unhindered peace.
2026 Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography Specifications
Horsepower | 543 (with hybrid output) |
Couple | 590 Ib-ft |
Transfer | 8-speed automatic |
Weight | 6,000 pounds |
0 – 60mpg | 4.8 seconds |
MPG (combined) | 21mpg |
But with this focus on a single goal, an opportunity arises for the Lexus 500h F Sport. As evidenced by Lexus’s hunger to create a machine capable of carrying passengers in real, satisfying comfort and a car focused on sharp handling and harnessing technological innovation to dynamically corner a heavy SUV, the Lexus is becoming an attractive all-rounder for more people. The Lexus is practical enough, fast enough, handles well enough, is comfortable enough and is luxurious enough on all fronts for 90 percent of people. What begs the question? Is it because the Range Rover Autobiography exudes class and wealth that it really is a better car for you and your needs? The chances are slim.
