Nearly 48,000 model year 2024-2026 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid police vehicles and 2025 Ford Explorer Hybrid police vehicles are being recalled because the pedestrian warning sounds may not work.
The glitches are caused by software bugs and the vehicles only lose their pedestrian warning sounds at certain speeds.
The details:
“The vehicle may not emit pedestrian warning sounds in certain cases where there is an error in the audio processing software and the vehicle is traveling at less than 30 km/h [about 19 mph] in electric mode. This condition can occur randomly without driver input.”
The problem was first discovered in July, when Lincoln Nautilus Hybrids failed to produce the pedestrian warning sounds in certain cases. Ford later discovered that 2025-2026 Ford Explorer Hybrid police vehicles and 2024-2026 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrids use the same pedestrian warning systems.
Ford has at least 129 warranty claims related to failed pedestrian warnings.
If the pedestrian warning sound goes out, the driver should see a message on the instrument panel that reads: “Pedestrian siren error. Service now.”
The Canadian version of the hybrid recall includes 4,365 vehicles.
Ford and Lincoln recall letters will be mailed between November 10 and 14, 2025. The software for the audio control module and the digital signal processing module will be updated by a dealer or via an over-the-air (OTA) update.
Owners of the recalled vehicles can call 866-436-7332 and ask for the pedestrian alert recall number 25SA2.
