“For me, Rohit Sharma is my leader” – Shasank Singh reveals the best advice from the ODI skipper of India [Exclusive]

Shasank Singh Is a great student of the game, someone who consistently wants to learn from the more experienced cricketers around him. His eagerness to improve his profession has attracted both the attention of fans and experts. In the last few seasons Indian Premier League (IPL), Shasank performed beautifully for Punjab Kings.

During an exclusive interview with Crictracker, Shasank was asked about the best advice he received from an Indian cricket player. The 33-year-old said that during an interaction with Rohit Sharma, the Indian ODI captain advised him to keep things easy and not to get confused by taking too many suggestions from people about his game.

I have a lot of advice from cricketers, but once I received advice from Rohit Bhai. I no longer know if it was last year or this year. Usually, when Rohit Bhai comes, we ask him a lot of questions about what they should do. It was last year. What to do, what to do, how to play.
So I went to him and asked him what he thought. He simply told me that everyone has a different way of playing. My way is different, your way is different. Everyone plays their way. So, if I tell you to play this shot, that shot, you will get more confused, “Shasank said.

“Make this game very simple. Anyway, a game is very complicated. There is a tension that you have to turn 5 overs, you have to turn 3 overs, you don’t have to give wicket, you don’t have to get out. The more you simplify, the better you have to play. Simplify that you can play,” he added.

Shasank said that Rohit advised him not to try new things every season, but instead to work on the skills that have brought him success in his cricket trip.

If I go to ask 10 people after the game, what else should I do? No. Until now, the level I came to, I think I am very close to the highest level. I have to do the same way the way I came. I don’t have to do anything else. Yes, I have to be more consistent in that. But I will not say that you have to do this, you have to do that, you still have to add a recording, that is not logical. The success I get now, I have to make sure that I keep cleaning up and becoming a smoother, instead of trying some new things every season. That was the small advice that I had received from Rohit Bhai to make my game easier, “Shasank explained.

Shasank Singh wants to play under the leadership of Mrs. Dhoni

While Shasank admitted that he dreams of playing under the legendary MS Dhoni’s leadership, he said he regards Rohit as his leader.

Mahi Bhai has set a trend as a leader, and I never had the chance to play under his Captainincy, although I played Bhai under Rohit. It has always been a dream of mine to play under the leadership of Mahi Bhai. But for me, Rohit Sharma is the leader.

So far, Shasank has played 41 IPL games in his career. The right -handed seizure has scored 773 points on an average of 40.68 and a success rate of 157.76. In IPL 2025 he finished with an average of 50 and a success rate of 153.51, which played an important role in the Run from Punjab Kings to the final.
