Very familiar with Marti Cifuentes from his days at Sandefjord Fotball. Following his team in every home game. Knowing many of his players personally, you understood what he could do. He made around 40 changes to the player’s equipment in his two and a half years at the club. He managed that club with a shoelace. He also had control over what happened.
Leicester is a completely different animal. From the outside we consider Marti Cifuentes as a very strong individual. One who had a clear direction, was at the forefront and was true to his ideas about playing football.
If he does well in one place, it is no guarantee that he will do well elsewhere. Ruben Amorim was Premier League manager of the month in October. His journey at Man Utd was very difficult. However, the owners have supported him and shown him faith.
We have seen a team that is not completely falling apart. After watching all the matches it is clear that they move in different directions throughout the 90 minutes. Both players decide to stop pressing the pedal. Alternatively, at some point the manager decides to change the pace.
Ricardo Pereira showed promise in the game against Blackburn, scoring some points and getting to know the player we know him to be. Then he gets dropped for Caleb Okoli in the next one. Not involved at all, it’s a nightmare to watch. This also happened to Oliver Skipp, Caleb Okoli and Stephy Mavididi. Then suddenly they start again, strange.
🦊 #LCFC | Marti Cifuentes has told BBC Sport Leicester that his team’s effort against Middlesbrough was impressive.
Luke Ayling’s late equalizer means City’s winless run continues ahead of a trip to Carrow Road on Saturday.

To be honest, nothing against Middelsbrough was impressive. The only highlights were Jordan Ayew’s penalty and a fantastic save from Asmir Begovic. The rest was a game of medeocrity, so who knows what movie Marti Cifuentes had seen. Leicester ended up playing against 10 men. With a little control they would have cleared the ball easily if they were one more man.
Football insider I think Marti Cifuentes will be under heavy pressure and could be sacked after the Norwich game. What we see at the moment is a group of players without a clear direction. Jacub Stolarczyk, Jannik Vestergaard, Jordan James and Abdul Fatawu are the only players who look safe from game to game.
If you have too much rotation, your only hope is to get lucky and have players do the work without using the pattern and building relationships. Then you are especially in trouble. This is so far removed from what we’ve seen from Marti Cifuentes in the past. You can’t really understand that these are his own ideas.
Although there are many players whose futures are uncertain, the contract situations for each player are not yet clear. When you look at the recent rumors about possible players, you start to shudder. They are nowhere near the level of the current team.
You look at the transfers that were made during the summer period. You start to wonder what is really going on at the football club. To play 4-3-3 possession-oriented football, you need to target the players you are going to use.
Marti Cifuentes chose Jannik Vestergaard as center back. This decision causes a problem when you press high and aggressively. It creates certain gaps in the movement. Just like Enzo Maresca, they find Jannik Vestergaard’s qualities more important. Possession gives you less time to press. In that sense, they decide to choose him.
We don’t really understand the use of Hamza Choudhury either. He is a fighter and tackler. With Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James there you could have had a good and balanced midfield. But so far Hamza has been playing right back.
We cannot understand why a third choice goalkeeper signed a two-year contract with the club. This decision is confusing when you look at the team. We also wonder why Luke Thomas was given a four-year contract. These actions seem irrational. The quality of these two players is far from what we think is needed to survive in the top flight.
The following players have contracts that expire next summer. They are Asmir Begovic, Ricardo Pereira, Bouba Soumare, Aaron Ramsey, Jordan James, Harry Winks, Julian Carranza, Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew and Wanya Marcal. This includes 10 players who no longer have a contract at the end of the season. Louis Page and Jeremy Monga could also leave the club for free this summer. Luke Thomas, Oliver Skipp and Abdul Fatawu are the ones with the longest contracts, ending in the summer of 2029. Building a team around those three would of course be a strange surprise.
There are problems everywhere and the composition of the team seems like a difficult package at the moment. Marti Cifuentes has a serious problem. He must determine who can be trusted in the future. He must decide in the coming months what to do with the current group of players.
The result in Norwich should be a win. Even that can’t save his job. Marti Cifuentes appears to be a name in the Leicester history books. Some fans think Marti should be given time. But anyone who knows anything about football agrees. They believe that the players he has at his disposal should be able to achieve results at this level. If you believe otherwise, you don’t really understand the game much.
