Foldable phones are not new. Over the past six years we’ve seen many companies launch their own foldable phones, but 2026 will be an exciting year. Why? Because Apple will be dipping its toes into the foldable scene for the first time ever. Now, thanks to multiple sources, we have more rumors about the specifications and features of the upcoming foldable iPhone.
What we know so far
According to the latest rumors and reports from various sources including analysts from JP Morgan and Ming-Chi Kuo, Here’s what we know about the specifications and features of the foldable iPhone.
For starters, and this is probably the biggest problem, Apple has finally solved the folding problem that Samsung and other foldable product manufacturers have not yet completely eliminated. Although Samsung will reportedly supply the screens for the foldable iPhone, it’s thanks to Apple’s own engineering and other components that have resulted in what could be the first foldable smartphone without a crease. That means a major breakthrough.
On the battery side, Kuo claims that Apple will use high-density battery cells, but we’re not sure if he means silicon carbon. Either way, the reported range is between 5,400 mAh and 5,800 mAh. This would make it the first iPhone with a battery size over 5,000 mAh. We’re a little skeptical about the battery life, though. Foldable phones use more battery than regular phones, so at best this balances out. Worst case scenario, we end up with another iPhone Air situation.
Kuo also previously noted that Apple will use Touch ID for the foldable iPhone. The sensor is located on the side of the phone and is 9-9.5 mm thick when closed. The phone is also said to be 4.5mm-4.8mm thick when opened. This makes it slightly thicker than some of the competitors out there. But honestly, it’s not a bad start for a first device.
How much will it cost and when can we expect it?
In terms of price, the foldable iPhone will not be cheap. Foldable devices are already not cheap, but Apple is expected to take things to the next level. Recent reports suggest it could cost around $2,400. This makes it a lot more expensive compared to Samsung’s foldables. However, if the rumors of a wrinkle-free screen are true, this might be justified.
As for the launch date, we hear that a 2026 release is likely. There are some rumors claiming it could be delayed until 2027, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Either way, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt for now.
