No rush in extension talks between Florida Panthers and Sergei Bobrovsky

Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined Sirius XM NHL Network Radio with Steve Kouleas and Craig Button on Thursday. They asked about Pagnotta Sergei Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers, and whether they initiated contract extension talks.

Craig Button: “I’m going to ask you about (Sergei) Bobrovsky. Every news, every thought and every indication of where that’s going.”

NHL Rumors: Florida Panthers want to keep Sergei Bobrovsky

Dave Pagnotta: “I haven’t, I’ll be honest, I haven’t heard much about Bobrovsky and the front there. I mean the same agent as Panarin, by the way; both share the same agent as Kaprizov. I just haven’t heard much there. I don’t think there’s much of a rush, at least from what I understand from the Florida side, to try to lock him up.”

I think there’s some understanding that they’ll figure things out when it comes to that. With some of the steps they’ve taken over the years to get two championships, like moving guys around Spencer Knight in the fold. I have to imagine there has been some kind of dialogue that Bobrovsky will continue for a while, outside of this contract.

Now, of course, things can change with the seasons. And he can say what a run they’ve had this year, no matter where they finish. Maybe I’ll decide to hang it up. I’m sure this will be an internal discussion for him. But I also have to imagine that he wants to continue playing here for a while.

But I don’t think anything has really progressed. Or at least, no one has told me that anything is close on that front regarding an expansion anyway. But I think at least, to reiterate what I said, there’s some understanding that we’ll get to this when we get there.
