The Florence native clearly knows where he currently stands in Italian tennis – and where Jannik Sinner is.

Cobolli has never shied away from ambition. He continues to train alongside Carlos Alcaraz at the practice track in Murcia as he prepares for another strong run in 2026 and strives for consistency and growth.
However, when the conversation turns to Jannik, the contrast is impossible to ignore. As Cobolli fights to take his place among the game’s rising powers, his compatriot has already established himself as a point of reference for the entire sport.
Rather than labeling the gap as disheartening, Flavio sees it as a reflection of reality and norms. Sinner has set a benchmark and leaves almost everyone behind with his relentless work, physical evolution and mental clarity.
Flavio is a two-time 2025 ATP title winner, a Major quarter-finalist and Davis Cup hero, having won three singles matches on his way to another title in Bologna. However, he admits that there is a gap compared to Jannik, who operates on a different level.
Cobolli’s words carry admiration rather than resignation. The young talent recognizes that progress is measured over time, not shortcuts. The Florence native understands that closing such a gap requires patience, discipline and persistent faith.
He may never reach the level needed to challenge Sinner and Alcaraz for the ATP throne, but his honesty stands out as refreshing. Most importantly, Flavio makes the way forward clear.

He would like to keep working, keep learning and keep chasing, just like the rest of the Tour compared to Jannik and Carlos. They are ahead by a mile and a half, but Cobolli recognizes that distance and knows what real progress requires.
After all, he is ready to challenge the best player in the world next season and establish himself as one of their biggest rivals. The task is easier said than done, but the Florence native wants to embrace it and give it his all to succeed.
Cobolli’s first chance comes at the Australian Open next month. He could take them on as early as the fourth round and show what he’s made of.
“You have to be a bit realistic in life. I work hard every day to get where Jannik is, but I realize that he is very far ahead of me at the moment,” said Flavio Cobolli.
