The NHL season of 2025-26 starts with its media vitrines, including the Rookie Showcase of the National Hockey League Player’s Association (NHLPA) in Washington, DC. For the Calgary Flames, this year’s Rookie Showcase Invitee is Zayne Parekh. The Flames had no invited person last season.

Purekh was picked Ninth General in 2024 From the Saginaaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and signed his entry -level contract shortly after his design. He played one game with the Flames last season after he was called after the elimination of the spirit of the OHL play -offs. In that one match he scored a goal and helped his team to a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings in the last match of the regular season. While the Flames could not make the play -offs, his season ended there.

Parekh set up incredible figures in the OHL, especially for a defender. In his Rookie season he scored 21 goals and had 16 assists for 37 points in 50 games, and in the seasons prior to and after his concept he scored 33 goals every time, an achievement that was not achieved by an OHL defender Since Bobby ORR. Because the OHL was then known as the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA), Parekh is the first player ever to achieve this. In his last season in Saginaaw he recorded 107 points, the fifth highest score player in the competition and 16 points for the next defender (Sam Dickinson of the San Jose Sharks, who is also a Rookie showcase-invited).

Parekh separates from the other Picks from Flames

The group of rookies invited for the showcase is Elite, with 20 picks in the first round and including 2025 first Pick Matthew Schaefer. The selection of Parekh from the Flames indicates that the NHLPA sees him as a good company for the rest of the intriguing young players in the group.

The Flames have one of the best prospect poles in the NHL, but Parekh stands out like the crown jewel. There is a reason why he was selected in the showcase and 2025 first round Pick Cole Rschy is not; Parekh is much more ready to play at the NHL level in the near future. In contrast to Rny or colleague defense Prasts Hunter Brzustewicz, Parekh is immediately ready to not only play games with the big club, but to be an impact player – his attacking bravery means that he will probably make a major contribution to Calgary and possibly competes for the 2026 Calder Trophy. While he is preparing to become a potential future face of the team, the Rookie show case is a great opportunity for him to practice his skills for a camera.
