Five people died after a tour bus, according to the New York State, crashed in western New York, according to the New York police.
The police said that the group returned from Niagara Falls on the border between the US and Canada to New York City when witnesses saw the vehicle losing control and turned around. According to the police, most victims are tourists from India, China and the Philippines.
Governor of New York Kathy Hochul said that local officials “work to save and offer help to all involved”.
Ambulances and medical helicopters were sent to the crash place, near the city of Pembroke, 30 miles (48 km) east of the city of Buffalo.
The police reported earlier that a child was to the dead, but they have now said that that is not the case.
The 52 people on board at the time of the crash were between one and 74 years, the police confirmed.
Some victims were thrown out of the vehicle when it crashed, the police said, and it is believed that most no seat belts were not wearing.
Others were stuck in the wreck for a few hours.
Translators and translation devices were brought on site and hospitals to help with the research.
Andre Ray Major, the New York State Police Troop Commander, said a press conference: “The cause of the collision is still being investigated. However, mechanical failure and the disorders of the operator are currently excluded.
“The operator has been cooperative and with the still underway examination. At the moment no costs have been submitted.”
The crash took place at about 40 miles from Niagara Falls, an important tourist destination on the border between the US and Canada.
The bus went east and lost control, threw the median and then in a ditch, according to the police.
Several children were on board at the time of the crash, the police say.
Twenty -four adult patients were admitted to a local hospital and doctors say they are expected to have a complete recovery. Other hospitals in the area also received patients, and those under 16 who survived were taken to a children’s hospital.
A witness told The Buffalo News That he saw a bus on his side and items were littered on the road after the crash.
“There was glass on the whole road and the things of people on the whole road,” said Powell Stephens, who drove past the crash location.
“Windows were all crushed. Everyone seemed conscious and ok, but I only saw the scene for about 15 seconds.”
Connectlife, an organization that provides blood to hospitals in the region, has issued a necessary appeal for blood donations.
“Our community is confronted with a crisis,” said spokeswoman Sarah Diina.
“This is one of those moments when your action can immediately save lives,” said DIina.
The Red Cross has opened a reunification center of the family to connect children and parents who have been transported to different hospitals.
Authorities ask drivers with dashcam images of the crash to come forward to help their research.
