Fish Eddy to expand to Brooklyn with Dumbo store that open this fall

By Kirstyn Brendlen, Brooklyn Paper

Beloved Manhattan Home Goods Store Fishs Eddy comes to Brooklyn.

The quirky retailer, famous for its messy shelves and a huge selection of unusual decor and crockery, will open this fall in 81 Front Street in Dumbo in what the store called a “natural extension” of his flagship in Manhattan.

“Brooklyn has been to our DNA forever,” said Fish Eddy Founder Julie Gaines, in a statement. “Some of our most iconic patterns have Brooklyn Brownstones and the bridge. So moving to Brooklyn was just a matter of time. Of course we are fashionable late, but so do new Yorkers!”

The new location will be about the same size as the cozy Manhattan store and offers the same types of goods that Fishs have made Fishs Eddy famous: kitchen needs decorated with whimsical designs, a mix of practical and fun.

“Opening a store in Dumbo was a no-brainer for us,” said Daniel Yadgard, CEO of Fish Eddy, in a statement. “This Prime address attracts a similar mix of the locals and visitors who have made our flagship of Manhattan successful, and there is a sense of liveliness and energy in this neighborhood that is unparalleled.”

Shoppers can expect that the boards are highly piled with basic principles such as mugs, plates and serving work with classic dinner style checkerboard patterns and colorful polka stages, as well as crockery that is a tribute to the iconic skyline of New York City. But perhaps more interesting are the more unique range of Fish Eddy, such as mugs decorated with spicy statements and quirky drawings by local artists. Some pay a tribute to Brooklyn – the “Bridge”MUG contains drawings of the Brooklyn and Verrazzano bridges, and the”Brooklynese”Mosquito says” Cawfee. “

The store also offers some less-basic kitchen utensils: cow-shaped creamer pots and ceramic berry containers, novelty glass work with vintage inspired patterns and even a tea towel with the Brooklyn Bridge.

It is not Fish Eddy’s first trip to Brooklyn – it once had a small location in Montague Street, but that store Closed in 2007 Thanks to rising rental prices.

Fish Eddy is expected to be opened at Front Street later this fall, and once open will work seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The reinforced concrete building in 81 Front Street, also known as 45 Main Street, part of the Dumbo Historic District, was built as a factory for cardboard entrepreneur Robert Gair in 1919, according to the designation report. Nowadays it contains various stores and offices.
