Fire hazard from the Ford hybrid battery causes another recall

Ford Escape Hybrid and Lincoln Corsair Hybrid vehicles were also recalled nearly a year ago.

– More than 29,000 Ford Escape Hybrid and Lincoln Corsair Hybrid vehicles are being recalled again after being recalled in December 2024 due to battery problems.

These vehicles will need to be repaired again.

The recall affects 2020-2024 Ford Escape Hybrid vehicles and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid vehicles that may have high-voltage battery cells that can suffer from internal short circuits and battery failure.

In addition, a short circuit in the battery cell with a high voltage can cause thermal vent fires in the battery.

Ford hybrid owners are advised to use only “Auto EV” mode and limit maximum battery charge until the vehicles are repaired.

The previous fix for the hybrid battery recall required dealers to update the battery energy control module software to add an improved ability to detect abnormalities in the battery cells, indicating the conditions that led to a short circuit.

In case of detection of an anomaly, the software issues a warning to the driver and stops battery charging to reduce the risk of short circuit. However, Ford discovered that the hybrid battery recall fixes could not prevent the problems.

As of November 5, Ford was aware of seven cases of battery cell bleeding on vehicles that had previously been repaired, but all incidents occurred on Ford Kuga Hybrid SUVs in Europe.

The Ford hybrid battery recall affects 8,751 vehicles in Canada.

Ford is working on how dealers will repair the vehicles, so interim battery recall notices will be sent out on December 1, 2025. The second recall letters for hybrids will be sent out when dealers are ready to make repairs.

Ford Escape Hybrid and Lincoln Corsair Hybrid owners with concerns should call 866-436-7332 and ask for the hybrid battery recall number 25SC4.
