The Grateful Golfer has been around for about 14 years now. With 1.5 million views and almost 1 million views, I cannot express how grateful I am for the success of my golf blog. The success of this little blog is of course the result of the many viewers who decided to stop by and say hello. But this success doesn’t stop me from wanting to get better, it just fuels the fire. To be honest, it really drives my desire to become a better golfer. It’s not that I’ve become a better golfer over the years, but my competitive skills haven’t diminished. I’m ready to dedicate my upcoming season to becoming a better golfer.
The question every off-season golfer in northern climes has is how can I achieve the goal of becoming a better golfer in a short seven-month golf season. Well, that’s always a great question and over the years I’ve tried many different approaches. some were successful and some not so much. While I complain about the future, I have to think about what works best for my game.
For many players it is important to keep their goals grounded. That also applies to my playing. I could repeat the same ideas by working on my short game and focusing on keeping my ball in play off the tee. I’ve decided not to tell you what you all already know. I’m going to try to approach my game a little differently this year by working on my course management. More attention to this important area of my game will, in the long run, help develop the drive to improve my game.
Thinking more about my game is just fun. It’s a good idea to think about using different clubs on difficult shots (or not so difficult shots) because this helps develop different solutions to difficult problems. Instead of using the same club for most shots, I’m going to share the wealth between my different clubs. This approach will be fun and enlightening, especially with my hickory sticks. It will be important to change things up to keep my passion for playing at a level where I want to continue improving my game.
Finally, I plan to play more golf. Last year I missed quite a bit due to a medical condition. Fortunately, that problem has been resolved so I don’t lose six weeks of prime playing time during the best part of the golf season. I’m looking forward to playing as many rounds as possible while still balancing quality of life with my family. Combining these two goals will certainly fuel my desire to play more golf at a higher level.
It can be challenging to discover what drives you to play better golf. I think many golfers like the idea of playing better, but don’t understand what drives their desire to play golf. If you’re one of those players, it might be time to take some time back to come up with a viable solution. Regardless of your golfing path, I hope you discover what drives you to excel.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
