FIFA publishes Global Transfer Report as spending reaches $13.11 billion – Inside World Football

January 29 – FIFA has published an annual report on global transfer spending, with transfer market transactions crossing the €10 billion mark for the first time – a sign that football’s economic profile continues to expand.

The Global Transfer Report 2025 shows that more than 86,000 international transfers were completed in men’s and women’s football in 2025 – the highest number ever recorded.

Spending on transfers didn’t just skyrocket either, it exceeded the $10 billion cap and reached $13.11 billion – more than 50% more than in 2024 and well above the previous record set in 2023.

England, backed by the Premier League, were at the center of the men’s market and leading the world in both expenditure and transfer income. Brazilian clubs, meanwhile, were the busiest in terms of volume, moving more players than anyone else.

Perhaps just as telling is the scale of participation: more than 1,200 clubs spent money on transfers in 2025, while almost 1,500 clubs earned compensation from at least one outgoing deal.

Women’s football also continues its sharp upward curve. Transfer spend rose by more than 80% to $28.6 million, with more clubs buying, selling and professionalising players than ever before. International occupational transfers have increased again, underscoring how quickly the women’s market is maturing.

At its base, football’s reach feels almost total. Nearly 60,000 amateur players moved clubs across the border, and 209 of FIFA’s 211 member associations were involved in at least one amateur transfer.

The question now is not whether football is growing. So year after year it still finds room to grow even bigger.
