Federer enthusiastic with Laver Cup support, wishes him to play in Chase Center

San Francisco-Roger Federer threw a few tricks and different shots to blind some young players who were dizzy to get a few minutes with the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

In the city for the Laver Cup this weekend in Chase Center, which he supports and promotes, Federer participated in a unveiling of six renovated courts in John McLaren Park in southeastern San Francisco for the Legacy project of the event, which is done at every stop.

Federer, who retired three years ago at the age of 41, caught his first glimpse of the unique black court in the Golden State Warriors’ Arena and itched to come there.

“I looked really special,” Federer said. “I feel very, sad is not the word, but I miss it that I can’t play, because this is a location that I would like to have played. And later I had a chat with Tim Henman in the hotel and said:” This would be a great place to play tennis. “So I will miss that, but I will enjoy it as a fan.”

While Casper Ruud and others have already trained on the field, a formal practice day is planned to give fans their first glimpse of the big ones for Thursday.

Patrick Rafter cannot wait to see the support in an arena where Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is usually the most important attraction. Rafter is an assistant captain for Team World and works together with Captain Andre Agassi.

“They are huge names around the world, and Stephen Curry is one of the most important men,” said Rafter. “So yes, hopefully we will meet them all, hang out or something. Here we are at this great location. I didn’t know it was many people – 18,000 people, it’s huge. Being here and playing tennis, it will be great to lean back and see them doing them.
