A shootout should take place in the Ultimate Fighting Championship cage on March 14.The organization announced on Friday as the headliner for the March 14 fight card to be held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. On top of the UFC Fight Night 269 billing ā also known as UFC Vegas 114 ā there will be a 145-pound slugfest pitting Josh Emmett (19-6) against Kevin Vallejos (17-1). Vallejos in turn confirmed its involvement in this main attraction in March Instagram.
Californian Emmett has been having a hard time lately. The 40-year-old has dropped four of his last five, with his only win since 2022 a one-punch knockout of Bryce Mitchell. Otherwise, Emmett has fallen short by submission to Yair Rodriguez and Youssef Zalal, dropping decisions to Ilia Topuria and Lerone Murphy. Before the fight, ‘CC0’ had put together a five-fight win streak from 2019 to 2022, culminating in an interim title shot against the aforementioned Rodriguez. The streaking Vallejos has made the most of his opportunity since losing to future top prospect Jean Silva in the 2023 season of Dana White’s Contender Series. A few breaks in the Samurai Fight House promotion in the Argentine’s homeland led him to another crack at the Contender Series, and he passed that test with flying colors by destroying Cam Teague in less than half a round. A trio of UFC wins, including knockouts over Seung Woo Choi and most recently a spinning back fist of Giga Chikadze, propelled him to this main event opportunity.
