FBI, police investigation after suspected armed person who was seen in video near the University of Massachusetts Lowell

Stads and State Police and FBI Boston are investigating after a video that seems to show a person who holds a gun near the campus of the University of Massachusetts in Lowell was shared on the social media app Yik Yak on Wednesday afternoon.

The video seems to show a man who holds a gun that runs on a sidewalk.

The university asked students and employees to protect.

FBI Boston said it is on site and coordinates with law enforcement partners.

“We encourage the audience to stay vigilant and to avoid the area,” FBI Boston shared in an X post.

The State Police of Massachusetts said it is aware of the video and responded to the area.

“We are aware of a video circulating from a person who seems to be armed in Lowell near the RiverView Suites in Middlesex Street,” wrote the State Police in a post on social media. “The state and the local police have responded in the area to investigate further. Everyone with relevant information must call 911.”

Lowell Police Department said there is an increased police activity in the field of Middlesex Street, Pawtucket Street and Broadway Street.

Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., Said that she is actively monitoring the situation and remains contact with local officials.

“If you are in Lowell, follow the instructions of @lowellpd and @umassslowell,” Trahan wrote in an X message.

University of Massachusetts Lowell is a public research university about 40 miles north of Boston.

The Lowell Police Department did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News Digital.

FBI Boston also refused comments on the investigation.
