Fate pushed me to join MS Dhoni at CSK: Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson is eagerly looking forward to joining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Besides playing for a champion franchise, the wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala gets the opportunity to share the dressing room with the legendary MS Dhonisomething he waits for with bated breath.

Samson was traded by Rajasthan Royals to CSK in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. The 31-year-old believes it was his destiny to play alongside MS Dhoni. He also recalled his first interaction with the former Indian captain and hoped to make more memories with him during his stint with CSK.

“There is one person there, everyone knows him. The person called MS Dhoni. I met him for the first time when I was 19 and was selected in the Indian team for the first time. I went on a tour of Britain. Mahi Bhai was the captain. I saw him for the first time and interacted with him for 10 to 20 days. Then I saw him many times during the IPL. There will always be a crowd in front of him. Five people here, ten people there. I used to think, ‘Okay, I can’t get him here. meet him, I will have to meet him separately,” Samson said in a video shared by CSK on their YouTube channel.

“I had such a desire. Fate pushed me to come and play with him in a dressing room. Those few months. I am very excited to meet him and communicate with him. Have breakfast with him, practice with him, play with him. Wow! Just the thought of it makes me very happy,” he added.

Bringing Samson on board is a sign that CSK is preparing for life after Dhoni’s retirement. The 44-year-old Dhoni is in the twilight of his career and Samson could be the perfect player to take on the wicketkeeper-batsman role for the franchise after the stalwart retires from the game.
