Facebook is introducing a new way to simplify the process of building a business presence on the app, by giving users a clear delineation between Profiles ‘Company’ and ‘Creator’ within the page creation process.
As you can see in there these examplesposted by app researcher Radu OncescuFacebook has streamlined the process for creating business pages, with an easy option to direct users to a business page or a professional account.
Until now, this process has focused solely on business pages and facilitating page creation, with professional accounts for creators in a different workflow. But now Meta wants to simplify the selection element, to ensure that pages are mapped more accurately within the app.
Although that can still be confusing in certain cases.
For example, if you are an author, are you a “creator” or a “company”? Are professional pages just for web-based creators, or for all creators? And if so, how does that relate to artists?
There are no definitive answers to these questions, but this is a slightly simpler approach than before, which should allow more creators to move into the right category and access more specific tools for their needs.
Meta is looking for ways to improve the categorization of different entities in the app.
Last November, Meta removed the option to have public followers on personal profilesas another step to ensure that every page and company has the correct account for its use.
Because the right account can make a big difference, both in terms of the tools you have access to and the way Meta promotes your account. Because Meta needs creators and shows them that they can build a stable, valuable presence in the app. It seems like companies are less concerned and more focused on driving ad buying, so the right separation between the two is important.
Although that could also indicate that brands might be better off switching to creator profiles.
Perhaps if you employ someone who can be classified as a creator, that might be a more effective approach, although I suspect if you’re starting a professional page as a company, Meta would want to stamp that out pretty quickly.
Anyway, this is another update designed to streamline and improve the page creation process and ensure proper categorization in the app.
