The last phases of the Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Sri Lanka in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday 26 September, witnessed a pandemonium when Dasun Shanaka escaped under unique circumstances.
India placed 202/5 in their 20 overs after being asked to hit first by Sri Lankan Captain Charith Asalanka. In answer, Pathum Nissanka de Sri Lankan innings anchored while scored his first century in T20i Cricket. With 12 runs that needed lately, however, he was fired by Harshit Rana.
Dasun Shanaka took a few points from the last ball of the over to deliver the scores and bring the game to the super. Arshdeep Singh Throwed a full episode wide outdoor stump and Shanaka waved his bat, only to meet the thin sky. The Sri Lankan all -rounder tried to steal a bye, but Kamindu Mendis did not cross the run. Sanju Samson armed the ball calmly on the stumps and the end of the striker to catch Shanaka at a distance.
Sri Lanka had already lost a wicket of the first ball, and Shanaka’s runout would have brought to the innings. The leg referee raised his finger and confirmed the run. Arshdeep Singh, however, appealed to a prisoner-Behind and was distributed by the referee at the end of the striker. Shanaka immediately asked for the Drs because he knew he had not swallowed the delivery.
The Drs showed that the bat of Shanaka was nowhere near the ball. He didn’t stay away. However, he was not finished either. This is because, according to the rule, as soon as a seizure is issued, what happens later, is not relevant. That is why, when the referee Shanaka publishes, it was trapped behind the ball. The run, which happened, was not considered later.
Rule 20.1.1.3 says that a ball is considered dead when the batter is rejected. “The ball is deemed to be dead from the moment of the incident that causes the dismissal,” it says.
Rule 3.7.1 also states: If following a request for players’ review, an original decision by Out is not changed in non -out, then the ball is still deemed to have died when the original decision was taken (according to Clausule 20.1.1.3).
Shanaka was rejected from the following delivery, because Sri Lanka only succeeded in two runs in the Super. Suryakumar Yadav took three points of the first ball bent by Wanindu Hasaranga to bring India to victory. The men in Blue will now have a break on Saturday before they meet Pakistan in the final of Sunday.
