‘Exiles have no home’: Australia grants asylum to Hong Kong Democracy Activist

Hong Kong Pro-Democracy activist Ted Hui has received asylum in Australia, said the former legislator, more than four years after he left Hong Kong, where he is confronted with criminal prosecution about the Pro-Democracy protests.
Hui said he received a written notification from the Australian Department of Home Affairs on Friday approved his claim and that his wife, children and parents also received Visa.
“If people around me say ‘congratulations’ to me, although I experience them politely, I cannot help me feel sad in my heart. How can I congratulate a political refugee who misses his hometown?” Posted on Facebook.
“If it had not been for political persecution, I would never have thought of living in a foreign country. Immigrants can always return to their home cities to visit family members at any time; exiles have no home.”

The Interior Department did not immediately respond to e -mail questions that were sent after office hours.

The government of Hong Kong said in a statement that “against the inns of criminals in whatever form was through a country”. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not respond to questions about the decision.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Beijing last month as part of the years of push of his administration to improve ties with China.
A former legislator of the Democratic Party, Hui left Hong Kong at the end of 2020 after being confronted with criminal prosecution on the Pro-Democracy protests.

In July, the National Security Police of Hong issued new arrest trips for Hui – including three other Australian inhabitants – who accused him of subversion, with a premium of at least HK $ 200,000 ($ 38,807).

Colleague Hong Kong -activist Tony Chung said on Sunday that he had received asylum through Great -Britain, in a position on his X account. He was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison at the end of 2021 after he was convicted of separation and money laundering.
Pro-Democracy businessman Jimmy Lai is rightly in Hong Kong on charges with regard to a national security law imposed by Beijing and alleged incitement.
