She is still running heads and inspiring head tires.
Almost three decades after the life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was demolished in a devastating plane crash, lives her chic, minimalist and unfavorable style of Legacy and Gen Z cannot get enough.
A $ 36, ¾-inch turtle headband made by the French hair accessory brand Charles J. Wahba and famous worn by the style icon in the 90s has become one of the most popular summer accessories a recent social-media moment.
As a result, Mode -Maven now swarm Co Bigelow Pharmacy in the West Village – where the exact headband is still being sold – to imitate her elegant, effortless look.
“I think the first Tiktok video over the main tires [and their association with CBK] Was made by someone from the Netherlands who visited New York City in 2023, “owner Ian Ginsberg told The Post.
Although Ginsberg cannot determine exactly when the store started selling the French head tires, he said they were probably ‘far earlier’, CBK began to buy.
The revival comes in the midst of the news of the upcoming FX drama by Ryan Murphy, “American Love Story”, about CBK and John F. Kennedy Jr., a project that is confronted with a recoil about so-called matte costume choices.
It doesn’t matter – fans skip the screen and go to the place where CBK once shopped, a fact confirmed By Vogue in 2023.
The turtle option became a style style years ago, thanks to countless paparazzi recordings that show CBK with oval black shades and the no-frills accessory.
Ian and his son Alec Ginsberg, De Coo van de Winkel, said Co Bigelow never promoted the pieces, but the sale has exploded since Tiktok Again on the connection.
“There was never really a revival,” said Alec. “The requirement never really died.”
Now, thanks to the recent buzz, the sale is peak again – and those who know say they are a bargain, even by 2025 prices. (Store representatives were not sure of the price that CBK would have paid decades ago.)
“The main tires are certainly the hype worth,” Makeup artist and Beauty Mogul Olivia Barad told The Post. “They feel extremely high quality and come in many different widths and colors.”
She added: “They are also very comfortable, which is super important. I am very special about the pattern and the color of the turtle that I wear, and these head tires get it absolutely correct.”
Carolina Delrio, the beauty manager of the store, said that when she first started working there ten years ago, the Wahba head tires came in just three colors: TortoiseShell, Beige and Black.
Now the store offers similar pieces in more lively shades such as hot pink and coral.
While many younger fans are just discovering Co Bigelow, located on 414 Sixth Ave., the 187-year-old Apothecary has long been a family-run historic shoppers from far beyond Greenwich Village and remains a NYC retail icon.
Since 1838, the mixed personalized remedies and vegetable tinctures have served everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt to Sarah Jessica Parker and Mark Twain.
“The store has such a classic and timeless charm that is fully in line with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style and aesthetics, “said Barad.
Although Co Bigelow is almost two centuries old, Alec said that their customer base has become younger – probably thanks to the influence of CBK.
“I often help customers find the most flattering accessories for their hair color and always turn that beloved tortoisehell headband out for customers to easily find when I make the displays,” said accessories Merchandiser Natalie O’Rourke.
Apart from Co Bigelow, the main tires are also available at Zitomer on Madison Avenue-a nearly 75-year-old pharmacy in Upper East Side where CBK reportedly collected shampoo and scrunchies.
Although WAHBA’s hair accessories are sold in around 80 salons and stores throughout the country, the brand has no website or social media-in step with CBK’s Low-Key Ethos, as reported by The New York Times.
As a Calvin small-publicist with a razor-sharp eye, the deceased fashionista preferred minimalist force pieces by Prada, Jil Sander and Yohji Yamamoto but she was also famous economically.
“Carolyn represents this chic, calm luxury style that I think many women want to emulate, but feel that they cannot afford it. So the main tires offer an affordable and an affordable and Accessible way to participate’Influencer Beverly Hart told The Post.
And bought what she needed and bought what she needed and bought them instead of accepting a freebie.
CBK held on to her playbook in style-like white shirts, tailor-made jackets, penny loafers and lots of black-out-worthy black, who often buy the same staples in every shade. Her streamlined wardrobe supposedly consisted of only 30 to 40 items.
The tailor influence of the old publicist is nowadays stronger than ever.
“I think so many New Yorkers and Tiktokkers are inspired by her style, because although it is very clean and classic, there is always one element that makes it super unique for her,” Barad said.
“She had that ‘it’ factor. Even if an outfit looked simple or just thrown together, it was always done in the most perfect way.”
Hart agreed: “Many style icons, although beautiful and fashionable, wear things that are not practical for, for example, a walk of 10 minutes and 25 minutes of metro to work.”
But the appearance of CBK is still portable, she said.
“Comfortable shoes, simple silhouettes, dark neutral. Almost every outfit she wore that you could wear today – that makes her unique.”
