Former Boston Bruins -hero Lyndon Byers died tragically at the age of 61, the team announced.

Byers, a Canadian enforcer who spent most of his career at De Bruins and was seen in two Stanley Cup finals before he became a popular radio personality, died on Friday, July 4. Boston did not share a cause of death.

“The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the death of Lyndon Byers,” said the NHL franchise in a statement. ‘Lyndon was a favorite with fans in his nine seasons in The Black & Gold, thanks to his rugged, rough, rough style and an important gear in the B that made trips to the Stanley Cup final in 1988 and 1990.

Byers played for the Bruins from 1983 to 1992 before he went to the San Jose Sharks. He later brought the curtain down on his career with two seasons in the now dewele International Hockey League.
