Former Boston Bruins -hero Lyndon Byers died tragically at the age of 61, the team announced.
Byers, a Canadian enforcer who spent most of his career at De Bruins and was seen in two Stanley Cup finals before he became a popular radio personality, died on Friday, July 4. Boston did not share a cause of death.
“The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the death of Lyndon Byers,” said the NHL franchise in a statement. ‘Lyndon was a favorite with fans in his nine seasons in The Black & Gold, thanks to his rugged, rough, rough style and an important gear in the B that made trips to the Stanley Cup final in 1988 and 1990.
‘After his gaming career, Lyndon spent about 25 years as a local radio personality, in which he entertained dozens of New Englanders with his rapid humor and boisterous voice every day.
‘A son of Nipawin, Lyndon became a real Bostonian and we will miss him very much. He is forever part of our Bruins family. ‘
Byers is survived by his wife Annie and son Will. According to PeopleAnnie also shared the news of the heartbreaking death of her husband in a message on Facebook.

“It is with deep regret that I have to announce that LB died yesterday morning,” she wrote.
“We acknowledge how many people loved him and took care of him and considered him a friend. Keep LB in your memory, remember his smile and know how much he cared for you all. ‘
Byers played for the Bruins from 1983 to 1992 before he went to the San Jose Sharks. He later brought the curtain down on his career with two seasons in the now dewele International Hockey League.
His best season for Boston came in the 1987-88 season, when he scored 10 goals while registering 24 points and 236 criminal minutes. De Bruins were hit by the Edmonton Oilers on every occasion that season in the Stanley Cup final and two years later in 1990.
During his career in the regular season byers, 28 goals and 71 points achieved, while his total of 959 criminal minutes for the Bruins 11th is in franchis history.
After hung his skates, the hockey player born in Saskatchewan appeared on the Waaf radio station of Boston and also enjoyed various acting roles in films and TV programs.
