Former JD (s) MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, who serves a lifelong imprisonment, has assigned work as a library operator in Parappana Agrahara Prison, where he will earn RS 522 a day.
His most important responsibilities include issuing books to other prisoners and keeping track of data from borrowed books, prison authorities told PTI news agency.
“He is entitled to RS 522 for each working day, on condition that he completes the prescribed tasks. In accordance with the prison rules, the changes of life are required to perform a form of work, and assignments are being done on their skills and willingness,” said a prison officer on Sunday, PTI reported.
Revanna had initially shown interest in working in the administration, but prison authorities assigned him to the library instead, PTI reported, with reference to officials.
He has already completed the work of his first day. In general, prisoners must work three days a week, at least 12 days a month.
Last month, Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined RS 11 Lakh for raping a 47-year-old housekeeper in MySuru and taking it.
The cases of sexual abuse against Prajwal Revanna emerged after a Pendrive with explicit videos that had been filmed by him was reportedly distributed before the Lokha elections last year. Revanna was Hassan’s NDA candidate, finished by both the BJP and the JD (s), in the polls.
However, Revanna claimed that the “obscene videos” in which he was involved had changed and had filed a complaint in this respect.
The trial began on December 31, 2024. In the coming seven months, the court investigated 23 witnesses and assessed the Key Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reports of the video clips, as well as spot inspectors from the crime site.
During the investigation and the process, the survivor submitted a Saree as physical evidence that she had saved. Forensic analysis later confirmed the presence of sperm on the Saree, which was presented before the court and accepted as important evidence when determining the rape.
The special research team of the CID (SIT), led by Inspector Shobha, collected 123 evidence during the study and submitted a large charging case over nearly 2,000 pages.
Revanna was convicted of sections 376 (2) (K) and 376 (2) (N) together with sections 354 (A), 354 (B) and 354 (C) of the IPC.
